Countries you would never wish to visit?

I once turned down the opportunity to work in Uzbekistan. I've never regretted that decision.

    O/T Battle of Lewes Road.

I'm waiting for someone to re-form The Middle Class Union with the aim of defeating strikers by getting volunteers to take over the running of public transport.

... and it has been brewing for seven and a half years.

    Dan Harding Whitehawk player

Yes, indeed ... a nice guy. Roz and I had the pleasure of spending a morning with him, way back, when he agreed to have his photo taken with the trophy that the Albion had just won and any Albion fans who were prepared to pay for the privilege. Proceeds went to the BHAFC Historians Society...

Motor Yacht A - OLIGARCH INTEREST THREAD - off brighton

When my brother was an officer and a gentleman in the Royal Navy, he spent a period of time in command of a fisheries protection vessel that had to sail from its base in Scotland to Portsmouth. He arranged to have lunch with me at Brighton Marina. I was really impressed with the quality of...

    Paralympics - favourite event?

It must be. Either that, or it's a version of seafront dodgems where crashing into other vehicles is allowed, rather than being banned.

An appeal to the club to change their Twitter handle

He was Governor Elbridge Gerry of Massachusetts who, in 1812, redrew the map of the electoral divisions in the state to benefit the supporters of his party (confusingly called the Democratic-Republican Party). One of the electoral divisions ended up with a shape like the outline of a...

    Mobile Phones and Driving.

Provided a proper licensing system is in place, cab drivers will avoid using a hand-held phone. In Brighton & Hove. It's worth noting the number of an offending vehicle and report it to the council, who will ask to inspect the CCTV evidence. Being in breach of the rules will lose a cab driver...

    The Albion and Southern Trains

There is a standard set in regulations that requires buses to be capable of carrying wheelchairs of a particular dimension. The same standard and dimensions apply to taxis. I can't see how calling a wheelchair accessible taxi would solve the problem.

    The Albion and Southern Trains

One example of SASTA's failings in the "passengers matter" area is the provision of wheelchair access at Glynde station. A couple of years ago, they spent a fortune providing a ramp to the Lewes-bound platform. This is totally useless, because any passenger using a wheelchair to return to...

Taking your first point ... this strike was voted for and agreed by 72% of the membership.

    The Albion and Southern Trains

Bozza ... What about the allegation that the new franchise arrangement that sends fares revenue direct to the government, rather than to the train operator, is intended to incentivise SASTA to break the union? SASTA can lose as many passengers as it takes.

An appeal to the club to change their Twitter handle

While we are on the subject of Liverpudlians ... Ringo Starr recorded a song called "Wrack My Brain". If he had meant "Rack My Brain", I'm sure he would have said so.

An appeal to the club to change their Twitter handle

I take my chances as they come available. There are hundreds of threads on NSC demanding a better LB. I get the point, but you are lumbered with me.

An appeal to the club to change their Twitter handle

It's not even a correct use of the term "gerrymander", which means to manipulate the boundaries of an electoral constituency to favour one party over another.

    Parking fine help

Why blame Lewes Council? The parking scheme in Lewes is administered by East Sussex County Council. There is a proper appeals system in place. I suggest Mrs LockStock uses it. The pay by phone system does specifically ask for confirmation of the registration number of the car that is being...

    RIP Rob Titchener

After all that unpleasant bickering between the members of the jury, we got not a single clue about how they eventually reached any sort of verdict. Very poor scriptwriting.
