I started playing rugby when I was about 12, so mid 70’s when Wales were sublime. Our coach was a Welshman whom waxed lyrical about the Welsh team . He also had a Philips video player so played us recordings ( which I think he got from a friend at the BBC) of Wales when training was called off...

Sadly very little video of him playing but what there is shows what a majestic fly half he was. He didn’t so much run as glide, he made it look effort less.

For me the ghost of that game was put to bed after the 3-1 at the Amex. 3 up at half time after scoring 2 playing with only ten men verses losing 5-0 when we had a player sent off. They were abject then as well. That game was the turning point for me.

A certain mr guardiola has been a clubs with way way more spending power than us …… That doesn’t detract from the fact that he is bloody brilliant but it’s not something that should be ignored.
