Palace has ONE 50k crowd in its history. The few 40k+ crowds in the 70s were London derbies or v Liverpool/ManU with pay on the gate and were essentially 50/50 crowds. Their highest average gate across any season was 30,167 (1973). Incidentally ours was 31,477 last season.
When the Team Of The Eighties myth was conceived in 79/80 they averaged 29,794 but 5 years later that had dropped to 6,446. Loyal as ever.

The problem for Palace is that their more winnable games (Everton, Burnley, Luton) are mostly coming in the next few weeks, a period where they still may be without Olise, Guehi, and Eze. & possibly still Hodgson steering the sinking ship. After that they have a really tough run in. They have City, Liverpool, United, Spurs, Newcastle, and Villa all left to play. Very tough fixtures for them. There’ll be no more bottom 3 sides to play. And their other fixtures against bottom half teams (Forest, Fulham, Wolves, and Bournemouth) are all away games. Simply put, if they don’t stick some points on the board over the next 3 or 4 games then they are right in the relegation battle for the season.

Stop making me dream.

If we are going to talk attendances what happened prior to the Amex? I am led to believe that the Withdean had many matches that were not a sell out, although I stand to be corrected

Most teams have fickle fans that disappear when the "glamour" of the PL is gone, I'm sure this applies to both our clubs, although I suspect one team may find out way before the other....

I always look at goal difference as good indicator for potential relegation candidates. Third worst is now Palace.

We managed to consistently get average League 1 attendances in a ground not much bigger than that level.
And a ground that many away fans would only go to once.

We have fairly consistently managed 80%+ of capacity since returning back to Sussex, regardless of the division we've been playing in.

Anyhow, back to Pilarse, and no points last night, starting to shape themselves into serious relegation contenders. They've had to work hard to get into such a position but their determination to fail is unrelenting

Firstly, the reason we're talking about attendances, is because Simon Jordan wants to pretend you were the Manchester United of the south. WTF? Manchester United are the biggest club in the country, so were Palace ever in a position to be the biggest club in the south, given clubs like Arsenal and Spurs are in London?

But you want to talk about our attendances too, no problem.

For a game to be a sell out, then the away fans need to sell all their tickets. Unsurprisingly, away fans didn't always fancy sitting out in the elements a couple of hundred yards from the pitch.

As for the home fans, a large percentage were season ticket holders, and when some didn't turn up (which happens at all grounds) we reported the number of those that did, as opposed to tickets sold (which is what Palace reported, and we now report). For the tickets left, you had to buy in advance, rather than pay on the gate, which stopped anyone going out on a Saturday and then deciding to go to the game (which is what happened before), so sometimes there were some unsold tickets.

But when we've had a ground of our own, that's not been the case.

We sold out our ground every year in the Championship. We've got some more seats since then, so I don't know what it would be like if/when we get relegated.

I wouldn't worry, you're not getting relegated any time soon. If there aren't 3 clubs worse than you, then there'll be clubs deducted points to save you.

They will have a very limited budget for new players.
They are likely to sell a couple of their best young players, probably Olise and Guehi to show they can replicate the pathway that Brighton have successfully demonstrated.
Three better teams than Palace will be promoted into the Prem next season.

Why would anyone go to Palace?

Because there are only 20 seats at the top table.
At least 8 are out of reach for a McKenna type manager.
Of the 12 others 3 will be gone.
Leaving just 9 Premier League jobs open to all deserving managers.
Of those 9 jobs, what 2? will become available each season.

palace is a very desirable job, imagine how low the bar is.
Comfortably 12th in the league 40 goals & 4th round of the FA Cup - where do i sign.

2024/25 will see Palace relegated.

We've been saying that for a long time.
Next season will be their 11th in the EPL.

They need to try a find a source to borrow a huge amount of money that they can't afford to repay.

It depends how desperate he is to manage in the Premier League.
As Stat points out, there are limited opportunities.
Beaky spins a good yarn, and has tempted plenty of smart people to manage/invest in Palace.

It is also entirely possible that Textor/Harris/Blitzer manage to sell their stakes to someone willing to invest properly in the club.
