[Football] Liverpool and Manchester United lead ‘European League’ breakout league idea

Well maybe..... but how do you think Foden, Mount, Arnold, Rashford, Greenwood, Kane, Sterling, McGuire, etc are going to feel when they find out that they will never be able to represent their country again. Not play in World Cups or European Championships. Never walk out at Wembley again in a...

[Football] Liverpool and Manchester United lead ‘European League’ breakout league idea

Isn't it funny how some of these ' big six ' actually furloughed staff during lockdown. One actually released some 200 employees. At the same time, they were clearly negotiating behind the scenes to secure enormous wealth for themselves. One of the big six borrowed £900m from the Government (...

[Football] Liverpool and Manchester United lead ‘European League’ breakout league idea

From the moment the Premier League was created, this was waiting to happen. Five clubs got together, with the sole intention of creating elitism in football and increasing their own chances of regular European participation. As Everton started to lose ground, so Chelsea and City gained ground...

    [Albion] 33 after 31

Why? Why not Palace or Newcastle or Burnley or Brighton or Leeds or Villa or Wolves? Its a moveable feast. Ever changing. Fine margins.

    [Albion] 33 after 31

Agree with that. We didn't quite get the right £20m striker in Maupay. He works hard but is just short of the level required. The other two have youth on their side but not the quality needed. Welbeck has experience and class but is not a prolific goalscorer ( 6-7 a season ) We need more.

[News] HRH Prince Philip has died

I have known nothing else for over 60 years than this Sovereign and her husband. I was given the middle name Philip because of him. It feels like the beginning of the end of the old order and leaves me reflective and saddened. He was dutiful, strong and immensely supportive. RIP.

[Albion] Player ratings at Man U

Those marks are too high for a team that let a lead slip and were too passive in the second half. The first half was very good but its about 90 minutes. You have rated Veltman's performance as good. He gifted United a passage back into a game where they were struggling and had his worst game for...

[Albion] Who is going down with WBA & Sheffield Utd? Fulham? Newcastle? BHA? A N Other?

If games against Wolves and Burnley are both ' winnable ' then surely their last two v Leeds and Villa fell into the same category. You want to play clubs that are in a comfortable, non - challenging position. I felt Fulham would get something from both those games and so did Parker. He was...

    [Albion] Frank Worthington RIP

Was sitting in the West Stand and listening to a group behind me all slagging off Frank. " Lazy you know what "...." Come here to retire "...." Waste of money " etc. I turned and said to them that he had more ability in his big toe than the rest put together ( bit harsh, I know....but they were...

[Albion] Anyone remember Coxy and Duffy? (Goldstone Ground)

Spent 30 + years watching the Albion there. Like losing a loved one, there is always a hole inside you that never quite repairs itself. Love the progress, love the Amex but the Goldstone was my first love and it formed the deepest impressions. I did my apprenticeship there. Small lad behind the...

[Albion] Anyone remember Coxy and Duffy? (Goldstone Ground)

Anyone remember ' the Hat ' You will have to be of a particular vintage to remember him. Used to stand on the East Terrace, as it got shallower towards the South Stand. Remember him around in the early to mid 70's. Wore this giant topper and if you stood behind him, you struggled to see...

    [Football] A business idea...

Good try but......... Well over 30 years ago, there was a company in the Thames Valley trading as ' Pitta Pockets ' selling exactly that to retailers. These were small, unfilled pitta pockets. Now, most of the major supermarkets are selling filled varieties and ' Old El Paso ' are marketing...

[Misc] Thanks to a thieving toe rag

I came home from work, one day in the summer, a few years ago. It was baking hot and I thought to myself....need to get out later....when its cooled a bit and water the hanging baskets....they look a bit droopy. Made myself a cuppa and sat down and watched about an hour of Wimbledon. I had...

    [Football] Kane cheats again

Going down in the box is now an art form. Players are so skilled at deceit that most people cannot tell the difference now. The ' leg drag ' against the keeper, to instigate contact is now commonplace. The keeper has no chance. He is trying to reach the ball. The attacker, reaching the ball at...

[Albion] Maupay stats vs other PL strikers this season

Yes...we need to up the percentages. We won't get extra goals from Connolly, Tau or Zeqiri so we need fresh blood.

[Albion] Maupay stats vs other PL strikers this season

No...I don't. I want to keep Maupay and play the two together. Use Welbeck tactically and see how Zeqiri and Tau develop ( although, not convinced about either ) Not sure Connolly is good enough, so let him have a season in the Championship and lets see if he can score regularly at that level.

    [Albion] Is The Tide Turning?

Same here. Get to 35 points and Fulham will have to better our results by 10 points. They have only got 8 left to play, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Utd and Villa away. Although we may not get many points from the next three games, I can see us picking up points v Sheff U, Leeds, Wolves and WHU...

[Albion] How do you feel about an international break right now?

Pretty happy. Chance for plenty of rest before the hard work begins again at Old Trafford. Players who aren't on international duty will be buzzing and relaxed in training. Injury niggles will rest and clear up. Webster may be nearer a return ( ? ) We can all keep looking at the table and know...
