It is great to know that karma does exist. After the behaviour of some Middlesbrough fans at their ground and on here last year, there is a great irony in them going down as we go up. Joey Barton being banned for 18 months is the icing on the cake.
Clearly the players were hurting too. But these constant threads are boring and the comparison to Chelsea is pointless, for the reasons I mentioned before. And the OP knows that too
Very few of our players are proven in the Premier League, that is why they played for us in the Championship. However, I'd be surprised if Stephens doesn't make it. I can't believe those comments about him. The number of times he's put in dangerous positions by poor passes to him and he just...
How is it an interesting comparison. Chelsea have achieved nothing new. Even if they win the title, they have won a number of them recently. By guaranteeing second, we had already achieved our pre season aim with three games. It's just another pathetic attempt to moan about not winning the title...
Stephens staying is great news. Really wondered whether we made the right decision in the summer to keep hold of him but he committed fully to the promotion battle and we've returned that with a four year deal, Premier League football and presumably a decent pay rise. Everyone wins (except Burnley).
Interesting that all we've heard so far is development players going. Suggests they are having a clear out and only keeping players they really think might make it over the next few years. However, Hambo's injury record means it was unlikely he'd be kept on and Ward hardly set the world alight...
Thanks. Can't argue with any of that. It was a great battle for the title between comfortably the two best teams in the league. The fact that an 89th minute goal in the last game of the season changed the course of the match shows how close it was.
Good luck for next season.
Are you serious? Did you see the players at the end of the Villa match? Of course, they were interested. However, when a team achieve their aim, it is not that impossible that subconsciously it does not quite have the same mental drive after that. The team can hardly be blamed for that. We've...
Can't guarantee we will get more points but am confident we'll have more impact on the Premier League. Most teams will hardly have noticed Boro's presence there this season. We will at least offer more going forward and I'm confident we'll score more goals. Whether that means we'll stay up at...
The bits I saw did seem to be going over the top in defence of him, which is why I commented.
As for Gestede, he never cost that much money (my point was a £12 million player will almost inevitably succeed at this level) and he was never bought at this level except by Blackburn, where he did...
I'm not anti Benitez, I'm just making a point about not going over the top with praise. Hughton has done far more with less resources.
I think the issue I have is he may have spent wisely but when you can spend £10 million plus on the likes of Gayle and Ritchie, it is hard to spend badly at...
Re spend. If you look at that list, it is £30 million plus seven undisclosed fees. They weren't all free. Hanley for example cost more than Duffy did.
I'm not saying they should all go back up but they had by far the best squad to go down in the last couple of years and added to it with a...
Disgraceful, isn't it? And if we lose on Sunday, there will be people on here saying we need to sell all our players and buy a whole new squad to compete in the Premier League. I can't wait.
But they are competing with a lot of teams who spend similar amounts. Benitez had the biggest budget in the league (only Villa really come close) and the basis of a team that should have stayed up. Arguably Hughton had a less good squad last time Newcastle were down and got them up with over 100...
Think it was about £50 million spent. No doubting he made a profit (think it was about £30 million) but he had players he could sell that would make him that money e.g. Sissoko, and others who remained who were clearly better than most at this level e.g. Mitrovic, Shelvey etc. During the summer...
Completely agree with this. You would think we were about to be relegated if you look at some on here. Whatever happens on Sunday, we start next season on same points as Newcastle. It would be a shame to end the season without a win in three and not win the title, nobody is debating that. But...
Seriously. This is getting boring now. Winning promotion was a huge thing. We've never been in the Premier League and not been in the top flight for 34 years. Would you rather the players just went straight home after the Wigan game?
I don't get this. Despite being from London (where there are plenty to choose from), I have never even considered supporting a Premier League team as a 2nd favourite club. I do follow Barnet, as they were my local club growing up, but not sure that this is quite what you mean.
Fair point. I can't wait until the first thread on here moaning about lack of transfer activity. Given the two seasons we've just had, it would be great if people just trusted the club until the end of August but you can guarantee that won't happen!
