I mentioned something similar in another thread.
He's said a few strange things. Today they were going on about the ref making the decision to stop play when SK were on the attack, rather than stopping play straight away. But surely the ref stopped play as soon as he got told he needed to...
Clattenburg keeps on going on about letting refs have another look. That's not what VAR is there for - it's for clear and obvious errors. Was that a foul? I think probably yes, but I don't think it's clearly and obviously yes. Unless it's a howler of a decision, play on.
I've seen enough of him in the past for Barca and PSG to know he's a top class player. As much as he is a bellend on the pitch, he's quality. Won French league player of the season I think despite being out injured the last few months. Third in Ballon d'Or behind Ronaldo and Messi a couple of...
That's the CONCACAF fifth round of qualifying. Panama entered at round 4, which all the other teams there had to get through first too. We don't have that kind of system in Europe ... perhaps we should.
Anyway, I understand there are different opinions and that's fine. But Ronaldo's penalty wasn't clearly and obviously not a penalty, and so it was right to not be overturned. The one Aguero won was a lot of obvious in terms of who the initiator was, less debatable I guess, and so it's surprising...
The difference with Aguero is he actively put his leg towards the Icelandic defender, whereas Nacho put his leg toward Ronaldo. That's why Aguero initiated the contact.
It depends on the specific situation but if that example is not a penalty, it's because the attacker's movement is a lot more unnatural than Ronaldo's was.
Ronaldo was sprinting and Nacho left his left in front of him, trying to bring it away at the last second but failing. Ronaldo is under no...
So if a defender puts his leg in front of an attacker whilst trying to get the ball, misses, and the attacker trips over that leg, without changing his direction, then it's not a foul.
ok mate
Are you serious? There is a clear movement of his leg. He tries to stop it but it's too late. I'm not sure how you can even deny that.
Watch it again in slow motion, for your benefit: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44408323
It was nothing like Ronaldo's one. Ronaldo left his leg there waiting for the contact and the Spanish player fell for it and tripped him. Ronaldo didn't change his direction. It was won, but it was a clear penalty.
Aguero made a deliberate and clear movement towards the Icelandic player and ran...
