In all respect, no-one 'got the shit kicked out of them' today. He may have a few bruises but that was a tame match. Players of yesteryear and fans alike would not have believed the excessive protection given these days. There were a few nibbles at him but half the time he throws himself to the floor when nothing has actually happened, with the clear expectation that he will get away with winning a foul as he clearly lacks the confidence to stay on his feet and play fairly.

Agree - sorry Guinness Boy but in no way did Neymar come close to getting assaulted. Maradona really was in his day and yet he still managed to stay on his feet. Neymar could learn a thing or too from him.

Yeah, Maradona was incredible. In football terms I was almost as disappointed as possible when he cheated with his hand against us. But he really was an incredible player. Imagine the price he would be worth if he was around now. First billion dollar player?

Absolutely, 100%. Such a shame he was a coke fuelled cheat too, Pele will always be the greatest because of this

Been out injured for months ... doesn't look fit.

Doesn't look like a top class player more like.

Lived up to the second part of his name (Jr), a bit of a cry baby, Lawro would have had a field day slating his antics had he been commentating on this game.

He appears to be the darling of Brazil but ended up looking like a spoilt brat who didn't get his way, no way should he be taking free kicks in this team of fantastic dead ball specialists, wants to be the star of the show but clearly he's not, he's no Ronaldo that's for sure, overated.

I still rate Messi as better.

It is always problematic to try to compare players from different eras. But great though Messi is, I think Maradona was better. I love Messi though, he doesn't seem (at least when I have watched) to cheat like half the others a la Neymar and Ronaldo etc. but just quietly gets on with things and lets his football do the talking.

He can't even score penalties! Maradona will be remembered long long after he's dead e.g. Bronze statues. Messi might get a commemorative stamp by comparison.

I've seen enough of him in the past for Barca and PSG to know he's a top class player. As much as he is a bellend on the pitch, he's quality. Won French league player of the season I think despite being out injured the last few months. Third in Ballon d'Or behind Ronaldo and Messi a couple of times too. So clearly is a top class player. Bit silly to judge him on one match when he's not fit.

So many top players have started poorly. Four goals in three games today with the teams in action doesn't bode well for the rest of the tournament. I'd love to be proved wrong and this will be a great World Cup, sadly not IMO. It might make Italia '90 look breathtaking.

All I can say is that he ought to come to the Premier League and see how he fares getting roughed up week in, week out. Behrami absolutely had his number. Coutinho was leagues better, simply due to the fact he passed the ball as a team player.

How would Neymar have coped with the absolutely horrendous physical assaults that Pele endured in the 66 world cup?
