How would Neymar have coped with the absolutely horrendous physical assaults that Pele endured in the 66 world cup?

About as well as a Pele did. Kicked out of the tournament by the hatchet men. We saw in 1970 what he could do though.

I really enjoyed last night and although I'm biased it was in the top three of:

1. Spain 3-3 Portugal.
2. Tunisia 1-2 England.
3. Peru 0-1 Denmark.

Other than that it's been cautious and spoilt by VAR. Plenty of time to turn this into a fantastic World Cup though. Could it be like Italia '90 when England almost won it but the tournament was short on goals? I'll settle for that (or England winning it!)

Mexico was superb, if they hadn't lost their heads in the final third Germany would have been stuffed.
VAR is stopping a lot of "off the ball" stuff.

A couple of games have been disappointing. France are still playing the old style of throwing themselves on the floor and rolling over, but lets face they've done that a lot in history, two World wars for instance.

You could also argue that even in his own generation, Ronaldo has done everything Messi has done, AND whilst he wasn't the one-man team Maradona was in '86, he has been part of a team that won a major tournament. So anyone who says Messi is the greatest is a) wrong and b) didn't ever see Maradona play.

And there's me thinking he never played for a European football club during an era where there was minimal football tv coverage in South America. Surely the majority of the footballing world have never seen him play?

What makes you think he's the greatest player ever apart from football stats? From the very little I've seen, he didn't seem to have that elegance and poise on the ball like Cruyff and Zidane were blessed with. He also didn't seem to have that dribbling ability Messi and Maradona had. And I doubt he orchestrated games like Zidane and Cruyff did. Pele seems to be a name people regard highly in football, but most people are basing this opinion on what others claim because, like I said, not many people have actually seen too much of him.

Saw a lovely stat yesterday, that Neymar has spent longer laying on the floor (14 minutes) during this World Cup, than Danny Wellbeck (11 mins) has spent on the pitch.
