No, he wasn't naive, just wrong. You didn't say that he promised promotion but that the fans interpreted it as such. Is it not possible for fans to keep an open mind?

Nothing in his statement promised, guaranteed or expected promotion. If fans are naive enough to read that into it, that's their problem. Hope and expectation are very different things. He was, of course, clearly wrong about the quality of the squad, but he didn't promise promotion.

Based on that assessment we might as well pack it in.

Apart from success on the field, most of it a lower levels, that's not the way I feel at all. Had no more or less 'connection' with the club then compared to now. Have always been treated well as a fan and a customer because I have always been both. Much happier at the Amex.

Surely, if we were to sign someone this week, CH wouldn't need to be there as the talking would all have been done beforehand. CH would have approved the player but wouldn't have any involvement in the financial arrangements.
