Was my first thought too, of course!
superseagulls - Kids are allowed in the Station but the only thing i'd say about the place is its quite narrow and gets pretty busy after games - esp if there's a big match on the tv. Your kid might have difficulty seeing the tv above a packed pub.
:lolol:
I don't think the term Dad Rock is used too seriously anywhere outside of the NME when they're slagging off the 'olds'.
But i suppose what its getting at is when you get to the age where you start stroking your chin at gigs (!) and appreciating "muscianship", "good songwriting" and...
Lots of people saying Mojo, which is interesting. It must have improved over the past few years then because when i used to occasionally buy it i found it fairly dull.
At risk of completely hijacking Middletoenail's thread, if we havent already!..
I used to think i was a BSP 'fan' but i was quite disappointed with the third album, and only liked the recent Zeus EP in patches. Havent bothered getting the new album yet.
But i did like the debut. And i think...
Funnily enough Low is the only one of those three that i actually own! Though i have listened to the others.
I prefer it to Low by quite a distance - which, although i like, is a bit too minimal and even cold for my liking. Station to Station is funky but dark with a fuller sound? And i...
Meh. Uncut had a quality article on Station To Station MONTHS ago :smokin:
In fact i bought the album off the back of it (had been meaning to for ages) and was very very happy with my purchase.
I would agree with the above comments that Uncut is a bit Dad Rock. It makes no real secret of the fact that Americana is what it likes best.
HOWEVER, i would still recommend it. Some great articles in there, and even though it retains a focus on 'classic' acts (the cover stars are always...
Indeed.
I've tried to use all these link but none of them are happening for me. Probably my fault as i'm useless at all this stuff.
Can someone give me a really quick idiots guide for how to get the match? I don't want to pay or download anything dodgy!
I've got stacks of SFA albums but don't know much of Gruff Rhys' solo stuff. Any tips from you lot as to where to start?
"Candylion"(?) is the only album that i'd noticed in the music press (was in Uncut's top albums of the year when it came out, 2007?) so i was thinking of starting with that one?
My commute today (Preston Pk to London Vic) had delays but nowhere near as bad as i thought it'd be.
Not gonna get overexcited though; maybe i got lucky, and experience tells me that luck won't last. Will be keeping an eye on the Southern website - even though its pretty useless...
Good thread.
I'm going to suggest Montpelier in the south of france - briefly made famous (in my eyes anyway) because Carlos Valderamma played for them in the early 90's. They played Man U in the ECWC quarters i think, and wore some kind of weird white/blue shirt and orange shorts combo. Tasty...
