On The Football League Show, Claridge didn't say ''Missing out on the play-offs would be an under-achievement''. He said he didn't know if missing out on the play-offs this season would be perceived as underachievement by the club. A very different thing. He stated that it was very hard to...
I thought that a laudable ambition, especially given the budget restraints at the time. As a Brighton boy watching the Albion since the early 70s, I very much enjoyed and was proud of us playing lots of local and Sussex lads (a novelty for us in my years watching) and almost making the play offs...
I remember it too. I'm sure Dave Mckay also played. Did Greaves play? Chivers, Coates (no Jennings sadly). I'm guessing, but I imagine Kinnear had some sort of agreement between the two clubs when he signed? He'd have just missed out on a testimonial at Spurs, which was very important...
That Di Matteo was happy to be manager of a 'club' like Franchise should also be a mark against him. Like a good many Chelsea mercenaries it seems, no football soul and therefore not for us.
I'm very underwhelmed by Di Matteo. He didn't improve Chelsea's league form on taking over from AVB, indeed it worsened, and Chelsea were continually outclassed across Europe while he was there, hilariously fluking a CL. Did well in the FA Cup.
He did get WBA promoted, which is a big plus...
I agree. His selection of Poyet at the time shows Bloom to be far removed from chairmen whose vision is stuck on the stock round the block managers.
For the reasons that people seem to want Di Matteo we might as well get flaming Avram Grant.
I would be sad if Gus went, he's done a brilliant job. The play offs have shown he's still much to learn, which is obvious as he's only been a manager for three and a bit seasons. However, I'd be even sadder if Bloom felt moved to put the club in hock chasing a dream in order to appease Gus. We...
It's shameful what's going (gone) on at Cardiff. Those fans going along with the Malaysian owners' desecration of the club and its traditions are beyond the pale. I don't recognise it as Cardiff City anymore.
If Abramovich hadn't come in they'd have done a Leeds, which would have been good as it has always been a crap club followed by too many neo Nazis, hooligans and other pond life. It's always been a big or potentially big club no doubt and had some success towards the end of Bates' time in cups...
Next Tottenham manager.. should we be worried?
No. Aside from not having the experience or weight of achievement behind him to take on a big club headed for the CL, I would think he may still be too closely associated with the Ramos period.
Once uopn a time, up and coming managers had chances...
I just finished re-reading Build a Bonfire late last night. It always moves me and lifts my spirits.
While we should all take a bow for our efforts back in the day, the book rightly showcases some truly outstanding contributions from a group of people who essentially saved our club as Hans...
