Has Abramovich poisoned his own chalice?

he certainly has poisoned the chalice with this latest reaction, who would take the job now? but the logic used to get to this conclusion is bizzare, they've had 3 league titles (2nd every other year bar one), won 3 FA cups and 2 league cups in 8 years. i think that counts as the ship coming in.

See, you are all thinking in 'instant' terms. I didn't say he came in and ruined Chelsea the historic club ffs, he has MADE the chalice that - to my mind - he is poisoning with expectations and the dough thrown at it. Yes he has gained fast success, but yes he is instrumental in the failings.

How is that "bizarre" thinking?

Chelsea won the FA Cup in 1970, beat Real Madrid in a European final in 1971 and lost to stoke in the 1972 league cup final, when Brighton have done that perhaps you can mouth off then ? And we have ALWAYS been bigger than QPR and West Ham.

Where does that come from? They were a middle of the road Division 1 side winning very little and not getting relegated. During the 50s & 60s they were mainly relegation candidates. I would think that Chelsea fans have relished the days of Abramovich as they had never seen such success before then.
Its definitely a double edged sword, the club now has thousands of johhny come latelies and 99% of thetime a shit atmosphere at home games, half the time i'd swap the success just to have my club back.

No one has built a strong team on money except Mourinho . What a knob Abramovich was for getting rid of him , now he is only interested in winning the European cup , you cant do that with starting a new manager from scratch, it will take many years . These russians cant go and do what they normally do and send round the heavy mob to get what they want he has to be patient

I don't think they are a joy to wstch, exactly - and I hear the moans of expectations unfulfilled in Chelsea supporting friends. If Matteo stays as boss I'd say that would be better - ex-player with some pride and connection.

And West ham won the FA cup in 64 ,75 & 80 plus euro cup winners cup in 65 ,so I shall mouth off about Chelsea not being bigger than west ham I never mentioned Brighton . I grew up in 70s 80s no one walked around in Brighton then with a Chelsea shirt because they were crap ( apart from beating Leeds in a replay at old Trafford in FA cup final 1971).

You will have your club back when abramovich leaves coz Chelsea will be like they were in 70s 80s again . And you can sit at Stamford bridge with the other 11,654 fans that attended games like Chelsea v York in league cup around 1986 ,

We haven't been put to the test on that front, hosting lower-to-non-league opposition - and let's be honest in knowing our fans aren't suddenly completely different in loyalty to the rest of England and would fill The AmEx regardless of the low stature of the competitors!

In actual fact, we would be happy to get that many against a York, Rushden&Diamonds or Stevenage.

and real madrid in in a european final in 1971, get your facts right ,or at least quote all of them, when have west ham been champions ? at least we were in 1955, west ham , two bob club supported by wannabe east ender , essex mugs.

In our first Amex season, in the Championship playing in the cup, that was a brilliant number.
We get taken to task about our attendences at Withdean, and I look forward to us being berated - as a Premier League club - for only managing 5,000 odd for matches against our level of competition.

Where were the 13,000 when we were at Withdean, is already the question pointedly asked of us now.

Didn't need to state you beat real Madrid coz you done that in a previous post , and well done for winning the league in the days of black & White tv , your argument not strong enough to claim Chelsea were bigger than west ham in 60s 70s 80s (supposedly the academy of great football . Just like to add I hate west ham as well but not as much as Chelsea too very similar clubs .

where no-one can find me
If Abramovich hadn't come in they'd have done a Leeds, which would have been good as it has always been a crap club followed by too many neo Nazis, hooligans and other pond life. It's always been a big or potentially big club no doubt and had some success towards the end of Bates' time in cups and just qualified for the CL. It was a successful and exciting club, for some I guess, in the early 70s when I first started watching football but was in a coma from the mid 70s and much of the 80s. Great times.

Many a chelsea fan tells me we have never beaten them in my lifetime but they weren't in the top flight when we were, almost going down to div 3 as was in 1983 IIRC.

Horrible club and no misfortune is too great for them. Well maybe one or two, but i'm enjoying getting this off my chest.

Have you ever met a Chelsea fan (a slight exaggeration perhaps, but only slightly) who doesn't in the course of a conversation bring up how big and supposedly hard their following was (crap home attendances as everyone knows) and how everyone's just jealous now. Personally, I don't want success so bad that I have the conscience of robbed and pillaged Russians, let alone the alleged no. of his rivals laid face down in sand dunes. If Putin had changed the rules and laws to allow me to siphon off Russia's natural assets making me filthy rich I wouldn't have saved Chelsea with it.

Headhunters. Dicks. Up the Albion!
