It made my wife really quite angry. She said she quite liked the guitars, but not the vocals, which she HATED, said they reminded her of "some rubbish band like Echobelly or Sleeper". I'm reserving judgement. From what I heard, I too liked the guitars, but I was washing football boots in the...
I saw Nick Cave at Westows. He did NOT take off his long, black, pointy shoes when he went down the slide with his son. He then retired to a plastic seat and read The Observer.
Of course, it's not as good as the Go-Betweens - it's a 7 or 7.5 - but still worth a listen.
I can't play this at work, but I'll give the album a go...
Matthew Herbert's Part 8 EP is well worth a listen: it's quite easy on the ear, but a lot of fun if you're a fan of house/techno from mid 80s to mid 90s.
Although that would have been apt, it was Invisible Touch. His dad bought it for him (on CD) and he told me "I think a few people at school are going to be VERY interested in borrowing this." He was wrong.
When I recorded stuff in my garage, it never sounded that good - they must have some decent equipment. However, my poor 4-track did enable some interesting sounds - a sonic cathedral of distortion and accidental moments of intense beauty, in fact. I think my mate recorded a Genesis album over...
The new Twerps album is pretty good, a big improvement on their first. I'll review in more depth when I've listened to it a few more times - one for fans of indiepop, Go-Betweens, Flying Nun.
Yeah - I heard one track. Quite good, but not mindblowing, but I await with interest. May while away some time listening to this:

It's composing the consolidated year-end accounts - it's making me irascible and unsatisfiable. Only Chris O'Grady and Rohan Ince can snap me out of my deep blue funk. IFRS 10 and IFRS 12 and PwC are slowly poisoning my every thought. I have a diluted EPS number to calculate.
I'm going to be quite contrarian here:
The Viet Cong album: sounds like The Mission, Interpol and The Rapture in a blender. That's not necessarily bad, but is mostly a mess. Interesting rhythmically, sonically often reminds me of hearing tests I take on a regular basis. I ended up longing for...
Here we are:
There is no cover as such - sender just wanted to get the thing sent, I think, and why not?
Breezeblocks – Alt-J
His nasal voice is loathed with no little intensity by my children, but this is a solid opener. Don’t think I could take too much of this band, but this is certainly no...
Since I've started taking my kids along, I've found that my efforts to keep my language clean have resulted in my shouting bizarrely old-fashioned things at the pitch, such as "Referee! That was a foul!" and "Play UP, stripes!" Sometimes, I picture myself as one of those anonymous members of the...
No reaction from anybody all around me, no singing, some clapping when we scored. I felt like quite the hardcore fan and extrovert, what with my occasional 'Come on!', 'Referee!', 'Albion, Albion' etc etc. However, the air was punched by a man and his two sons (Albion scarves) when it was...
