I'm a big fan of hers and have been ever since her obscure Soundcloud debut about 2 years ago. Great shout and her Ep sounds tremendous.

What's it called? I can't find it, and on their website it still advertises Strange Friend as the new album. Seems very soon to be releasing another...have you got a link?
I have finally got round to listening to Pom Pom by Ariel Pink. It's quite a frustrating listen as there are little moments when it borders on brilliant but then Mr Pink will seemingly sabotages it. It sounds quite childish in parts as well. Was he taking tons of drugs when he made it? Is he schizophrenic?

I'd imagine he smokes a fair bit of dope and has probably experimented with psychedelics but he's not a drug man per se. He's a little unhinged but schizophrenic would be a little harsh.
I adored pom pom, it's the record I've been waiting for him to do since he broke. If this one is a bit much have a go on Before Today, it's his 'grown up' album.

On reflection my schizophrenic comment is inappropriate; I used that term as the album swings from excellent to, well, just nonsense at times. I sat listening to it but thinking "no no please don't do that, it was so good until you did...." a number of times. Possibly a little contrived at times. Oh well, it's all about opinions.
In other news I absolutely love White Fence. I have been listening to it for some time now but am building myself up into a bit of a frenzy with this one at the moment due to the gig next week.

The Dengue Fever album 'The Deepest Lake' is an absolute belter. For anyone who isn't aware of them they're a San Francisco band with a Cambodian female lead singer and they play Cambodian-infused psychededlic rock. They've been around a fair few years now and get better and better with every album. They tend to alternate between Cambodian and English language vocals but this album is predominantly all in Cambodian. It's a corker. I can't find any tracks from their latest album to stream (Ghost Voice is particularly good) but this is from an early album and gives a flavour of what to expect

A few more albums:
Charlatans - 'Modern Nature'. This is a great return from the Black Country lads. I think the way to approach this album is to remember that they're not 20-somethings up for raving and partying and this album reflects that. One thing it isn't though is Dad Rock, it's easy-going but there's quite a soulful feel to this album with the bar set very high with the opening track 'Talking In Tones'. These are the tunes that they do so well and that Burgess excels at. His recent solo album found him quite out of his depth but with a band behind him and less demanding vocal range he's on top form here.
Samba Toure - 'Gandadiko'. I can't praise this album highly enough, it's so damn good. I don't know if Samba is related to fellow Malian, the late great Ali Farka Toure but Mali music is in great shape with musicians like this around. His music is electric blues, and boy, can he can play the guitar but he has a strong West African influence that just shines through. The fusion makes for a very accessible album. Seriously, if you've never heard modern Mali music before then please do yourself a favour and listen to this.

It made my wife really quite angry. She said she quite liked the guitars, but not the vocals, which she HATED, said they reminded her of "some rubbish band like Echobelly or Sleeper". I'm reserving judgement. From what I heard, I too liked the guitars, but I was washing football boots in the utility room (whooo - get us) and couldn't hear that distinctly so I'll have to give it a go on the train.
