[News] Average tank of fuel now over £100

But I'm guessing if there was a fuel tanker strike tomorrow people would still be queuing around the block to fill up even at 2 quid a litre. People will go without other necessities before they abandon their car

[Other Sport] Bucket list items you're never going to achieve

I've found that sometimes just doing things on the spur of the moment or because the opportunity presents itself can lead to events which are more exciting and memorable than bucket list items Bucket list items, like dream jobs, can sometimes be underwhelming

She seems to be making an impact on a new audience following 'Running up that hill' being included on Stranger Things soundtrack. Done some amazing stuff IMHO...

    [News] American mass shootings

One of the victims of the recent subway gun attack in New York has filed a lawsuit against gun manufacturer Glock. Will it work ? It remains to be seen, but following the Sandy Hook school shootings Remington settled a similar case for $73M and there have been similar payouts for people suing...

[Politics] Tory meltdown finally arrived [was: incoming]...

After digesting this quite depressing result I couldn't help laughing at one of the Guardian reader comments "The problem is this line will work with much of the electorate and as a result we will be stuck with this bunch of deranged toss pots for decades to come"

I thought Trump was tricky but Johnson makes him look like a rank amateur by comparison

It somehow feels like a cheap publicity stunt where the outcome is already known

    [News] American mass shootings

I honestly can't see Biden doing much at a Federal level, it will be up to individual States to act. New York has in the last few days passed more legislation which will strengthen it's already strict gun laws. One includes raising the age to purchase a semi automatic rifle from 18 to 21. Sure...

    [Film] 2001 a Space Odyssey

Apparently it was all the stoners who turned up hammered to watch the Stargate sequence that helped 2001 weather a dodgy box office start !

    [Film] 2001 a Space Odyssey

I think it was Kubrick's attention to detail that makes it such a good film which stands the test of time. Apparently people walked out before the end in some cinemas saying what the f*** was that all about?

[Offers] Her Majesty The Queens Platinum Jubilee - Official Thread

Unlike a prime minister the queen has never had to take any difficult or unpopular decisions which affect peoples day to day lives, she just turns up and smiles and waves at people. So to an extent she is bound to be popular. Even people who are indifferent to her can't really find that much to...

[News] Johnson to bring back Imperial units to honour the queen

I think he has become the UK's Trump. He remembers when Trump pulled that stunt of standing in front of the church with a bible to appeal to all the religious nutters in the States so he does the equivalent with imperial units to appeal to all the Little Englanders

[Politics] Is it time for the UK to become a republic?

I'm not really that surprised, I think the support for the monarchy is exaggerated by the tabloid media. What I do think is the case, as other posters have said, is a massive indifference and most people would not really be affected one way or the other

[News] Johnson to bring back Imperial units to honour the queen

It always amazes me why the USA still clings to the imperial system, even though pretty much everything you buy has the metric equivalent for weight and size. Being in construction it always annoyed me having to divide everything by 27 to come up with cubic yards of concrete etc. or seeing a...

[News] Johnson to bring back Imperial units to honour the queen

Most countries try and move forward, this one seems determined to move in the opposite direction. Just as well most TV channels are now 24 hour or he would no doubt be lobbying to play the National Anthem when they shut down
