That was my thought too. One of the modern day problems with politics is that any dissent or disagreement is termed a rebellion rather than a debate. Similarly if a gov changes its mind because it has listened to the people or opposition then they are condemned for making a u turn.
No particular...
I went on two of the largest demos in our history (Iraq war and countryside) and yet i don’t recall any of the controversies, disorder concerns or disquiet about hijacking by politicians, the press, rent a mob or extremists. As far as I was aware at the time, a peace march was simply a peace...
Get your point but the point of remembrance day is to pay respects to those who gave their lives for us and to remember the human cost of all wars so that we double our efforts to create peace. it seems counter intuitive to me to be demonstrating about anything on such a day. It’s one day in the...
This. Shame really because initially, as someone who has limited knowledge of the many complex issues, I found this thread interesting and enlightening
I do agree but "being jailed after blocking roads, disrupting court proceedings and in one case climbing on top of an aeroplane" may be peaceful in the sense they didnt hit anyone but its not standing with a placard outside a gov building. Also it wont have been a first offence for those jailed...
This is where I am but I don’t trust any party. So I would prefer a coalition government to spread the risk. My constituency will never go red, so will vote LD in the hope that this kicks the tories out.

People taking actions and initiatives for a better world... like miners going on a strike, suffragettes bombing to make their point because words werent enough, people violently protesting tyrannical governments, or fans invading pitches to protest poor owners... always a nuisance...
Totally agree with your sentiment/conclusion in this case. But as a wider debate, wouldn't it be helpful to better outcomes if every time a gov changes its mind they are not condemned for doing a U turn? Surely the job of a democratically elected gov is to listen to the people and if necessary...
I suspect many would be a lot happier with the time taken to get away from the ground if the queues for the trains and P&R were covered, the car park stewards were over 18 and trained in safe traffic management and the police managed the traffic on the A27 slip roads and roundabouts. All of...
Totally get your point but its perhaps where 'what is best for the country' (strange political concept I appreciate at the moment) should come before dogma. If private schools were banned, then hundreds of thousands of pupils would be added to the state school system without a penny of extra tax...
Fair comment. There are so many global factors - Ukraine, Israel, Brexit, OPEC, Trump (god forbid), Covid etc that Labour are going to have a very hard job without having to also address our numerous domestic issues and divisions. Expectations will be high but perhaps we should settle for some...
I hope now Starmer will have the confidence to finalise and lay out every proposed policy that makes up his vision for the country. Not so much to inform us why we should vote labour (thats a done deal now) but so they they can hit the ground running on day one.
And this is typical of every trade deal we have made post brexit. From labour laws to animal welfare, lower standards are ignored in order to make a deal that says ‘look how clever we are by getting Brexit done’. The Gov care nothing for our own industry, workers, farmers or the global...
An olive branch from Germany but much as this is hugely welcome, I cant help but feel that waiting until after the election when we might have some politicians that are intelligent enough to engage constructively might be in our country’s best interests. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-67105143
