    [Politics] Brexit

If only we had stayed in, our economy could be going the same way as Germany's?

    [Politics] Brexit

Yes, that was an argument often put forward by people like yourself who consider themselves "better" than others. It was on the grounds of "I am clever and you are stupid, I despise you, I hold you in contempt, I believe you and your opinions to be worthless". Unfortunately it didn't win many...

    [Politics] Brexit

That's not the point of these regurgiations fot eh 2020 article. The point is that in 2020 the government could have spent a lot of money, money which instead they chose to defer spending until it was needed. I think the idea may be that if they had opened the extra booths 18 months ago, many...

    [Politics] Brexit

There is an alternative. Obviously the majority on this board are in favour of joining a political union, partly in order to make travel to France easier. But what of those of us who like to visit America? Is there any likelihood of joining a political union with the USA, so that I won't have...

[Music] British bands - You can only save 3

Since neither the Wombles nor the Wurzels are an option, I'm not playing.

[Football] PL introducing multiball system to reduce timewasting

Proposed new rule: if a team wastes time, the decision goes the other way. So if they waste time at a throw in, the other side gets the throw. If they waste time at a goal kick, it becomes a corner. And so on. No need to book anyone for timewasting because the loss of possession would hit...

    [Football] Heading Ban For Youngsters

I'd have thought with corners, the same sort of cross as now might have a use. As long as you can keep the goalkeeper away, the defenders can't head it clear, so they have to let it drop and have a kick-scramble-ruck to try and hack it clear. Unless they outlaw over head height like in 5-a-side.

    [Other Sport] Define a Woman

It's not a new idea, actually. They used to castrate little boys before puberty and turn them into eunuchs, but as society became more modern it was generally agreed to be a barbaric practice and was put a stop to. I suppose some people might believe it's time to bring it back? Whatever they...

    [Other Sport] Define a Woman

One thing that is often forgotten in all this. Whatever the definition of woman and man, people can be and are still split into two binary groups - people with Y chromosomes, and people without. This has not changed. And the next thing that is forgotten is why they had separate women's sport...

    [Other Sport] Define a Woman

Was that lot written by someone who is genuinely fighting for the rights of trans people, or is it a parody written by someone who is trying to illustrate how absurd these arguments can get?

[Politics] US Supreme Court overturns Roe v Wade

That wasn't a controversial statement, you know. Even the most pro-choice activists accept that a woman does not have an absolute right to abort a baby/foetus when she is (say) 38 weeks into pregnancy. Most accept that the foetus/baby has to be considered as well.

[Politics] US Supreme Court overturns Roe v Wade

My apologies, I thought you were indicating that abortion might help solve the issue. As a side issue, how could privately-run jails not be subsidised by the government? You can't expect the prisoners to pay for their own accommodation!

[Politics] US Supreme Court overturns Roe v Wade

Even if you are hinting that they would have been better off dead, it's surely better to give them the chance to live a good life and kill them only when they have failed? Eugenics is a bit of an iffy subject.

[Politics] US Supreme Court overturns Roe v Wade

The order of the New Testament was fixed between 393 and 397 AD, so it's certain that none of it was written as recently as the 6th century. And I don't think there is much scholarly doubt that Paul's letters, at least, were written in approx the AD 50's.

[Politics] US Supreme Court overturns Roe v Wade

It depends how you define "Christian". Obviously the way you define it, there can be no war, there can be no capital punishment, and if a Christian catches someone in the act of raping or murdering a member of his family, he will stand back and let it happen. In practice, Christianity has a...

[Politics] US Supreme Court overturns Roe v Wade

you're still missing the point. I'm not particularly trying to get people to agree my point, just to see that it exists. You are taking it as an article of faith that an abortion involves only one person and that an unborn foetus has no rights and can be disposed of. Other people believe...

[Politics] US Supreme Court overturns Roe v Wade

The American constitution grants its people the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Note the word Liberty. American citizens are promised it as their right - but does that mean that it is unconstitutional to put anyone on prison? Obviously not. And no doubt you could, and...

[Politics] US Supreme Court overturns Roe v Wade

Because (at risk of stating the bleeding obvious) it's perfectly possible to believe that murderers should die while still believing that it's wrong to kill babies. The fundamental question in abortion rights is NOT whether it's OK to kill babies, because no-one believes that it is. The...

[Politics] US Supreme Court overturns Roe v Wade

The Supreme Court should never have ruled on Roe v Wade anyway. If it is necessary that there should be one abortion law that covers all the country, then it's up to Congress to make that law. They haven't done. The law banning partial birth abortion, where living foetuses or babies...

[Football] Kevin Friend - great ref

Hardly brilliant news that he'll have a position supervising - presumably he's going to teach refs how to referee like Kevin Friend. Good luck with your PL refs. Hopefully down among the dead men (not Darren Deadman, please!), we're going to have some refs who don't think their job is...
