he was right next to Trump in the campaign, promoting DOGE for months. he was part of "the ticket". the USian system is they elect a President who then fills their government with appointees. no one in their cabinet is elected. we may not like what it looks like or object to some of the outcomes, it's part of their process.
It was all laid out in Project 2025. People read it and decided it wouldn't happen. It's happening

They're not doing what they said they'd do. They did not say they'd give Musk access to everyone's personal data, they did not say they'd try and remove the judiciary in order to give themselves total control with no checks or balances.
have a point on data access, though many people have that in those departments, unless made a duplicate its probably not illegal. going up against the judicary is actually something they said they'd do, because they are seen as part of "the swamp". it's between them the judiciary and Congress how far they really want to go.

Trump could also be trying to set some kind of precedent (spelling?) to pave the way for him grabbing the bits he wants, Greenland etc.

ie; avoid conflict by negotiation (blackmail).

I dunno. I’ll be honest, I haven’t a clue what the maniac is up to.

Could be as simple as he wants to be the guy that ended the war? That would be consistent with his narcissistic tendencies?
Greenland we have first dibs on, he can f*** off.

we need to strengthen the Commonwealth and invite the European countries in. The alternative NATO

Yea, let’s have two weak alliances rather than one strong one: that’ll terrify Putin.

Quite, he denied being connected to. So its not really accurate to suggest voters knew all this was coming.

Yeah, but they voted for Trump to be President, not Musk. It's pretty clear who has all the power.

Just listened to the rest is politics where they were saying with the ending of all aid to sub saharan £8 billion US dollars worth of aid to some of the poorest people on earth left destitute plus the many hundreds of thousands of aid workers have lost their jobs, in Kenya alone that amounted to 20,000 people now out of work how utterly barbaric the USA has become and by that I mean not just the Trump administration but the millions of Americans citizens that put him into power.
This will unleash a tilde wave of refugees and likely ferment further retribution on the USA only this time I hope the UK doesn’t blindly follow any retaliatory USA actions

The Rest is Politics that well balanced insightful political podcast :ROFLMAO:

Its about as well balanced and thorough in terms of knowledge and insight as you'll get, considering the roles they have and opinions they have based on their own experiences and deep understanding. And one leans more to the right, one leans more to the left politically. How balanced do you want?

What do you watch/listen to that is more balanced - pray tell?

Millions around the country, particularly down here, voted Lib dem because of being so disillusioned with the tories. Doesn't mean your core beliefs have changed. They were very critical when the tories were in power; they've been very critical since Labour have been in power.
With Trump, there really isn't anything positive to report at the moment (if you are in any way sane) - it's everything we expected and much worse so far.

That said, I've not heard of Not Another One. Will try to give it a listen

I enjoy The Rest is Politics, but you make a very good point.

Rory Stewart is about as centrist as you can get. Definitely not right leaning.

You don't spend almost 10 years as a Tory MP if you don't lean to the right.

I completely agree with everything you're saying about the situation, but I don't think perceived appeasement is the same as 'Trump selling Ukraine to Russia.'

Look at Northern Ireland—Britain refused to negotiate for decades, treating the IRA as terrorists rather than engaging in meaningful diplomacy. It took years of conflict, thousands of deaths, and international pressure before they finally sat down to talk. And even then, the British government only did so when it became clear they couldn't win militarily. If negotiations had started sooner, how many lives could have been saved?

A peace process—no matter how distasteful the compromises—usually requires talking to all sides, even aggressors. That doesn’t mean handing over everything they want, but it does mean acknowledging reality and working toward an outcome that actually ends the bloodshed.
We were negotiating with IRA long before anyone heard about it & it only came to anything when THEY realised they couldn't win with guns & bombs.
