Our first choice midfield should be Hinsh and Baleba. Gomez has a really good chance of overhauling Ayari as the (usually) 3rd choice.

Which leaves O'Riley, Wieffer and Milner, if they ever get fit and stay fit, having a real job to get any football at all
Naturally O'Riley should be more of a 10 I think, he got a silly amount of goals & assists for Celtic. Would like to see him tried there.

Think I agree with you. But Gomez alongside Baleba would have some serious punch.

What's nice is we finally have options, so can flex to the opposition + subs will have a positive impact.

It's difficult to see a vacancy there either. At best he's third choice, probably more likely to get on if Pedro and Rutter are both injured than Gruda. But then Facu is likely to return next season. I'm not sure how he's forcing his way in

Interesting that in his 12 Champions League appearances (which is a much closer level to the EPL than the MTL), he only played at 10 twice.

That said, he was only in the winning side once.

For me Baleba and Hinsh is the perfect blend of physicality and intelligent use of the ball/reading of the game (which Hinsh brings in spades). It does look like Gomez could offer a seriously dynamic option though regardless of who he’s partnering.

He really looks like he has it all to me.
Still a very long way to go but his strength, dynamism and eagerness to either get the ball forward quickly or drive forward with the ball is great to see. Hinsh will do VERY well to keep him out of the side over the rest of the season .

youtube short video highlghts of Diego Gomez vs Chelsea or club website. Only on the field as a 68 minute sub yet absolutely immense in reading the game and shutting down threats all over the pitch. Just wow!

In style, he really does remind me of Steven Gerrard. Can he get anywhere that level of quality? He has made a good start.

With them all fit and on form, our midfield could be fantastic.

Baleba, Gomez, Hinsh and then Ayari, O'Riley and Wieffer clearly have something although inconsistent.

Young players are inconsistent, and injuries have hit this area hard. But there's so much potential there.
Great options. Serious strength in depth.

Kaoru Mitoma has proved that sometimes, players prioritise sporting success rather than financial success.

But perhaps the pain of losing him this summer to possibly a Manchester club will be tempered by Messi adding the Premier League to his GOAT career record and getting the opportunity to nurture a protege at the same time?

I doubt he’d want the pressure of joining a big club in the EPL. I also think that we could cover most of his salary with additional sponsorship income and shirt sales.

Football is all about dreaming!
GOAT? He’s not even the best player to come out of Argentina. IMO.
