I think what we need is two players to have a run of games together and form a really good partnership. Baleba and one other.

Until we get that, we are really going to struggle for consistency.

Hürzeler started with Milner whom I thought had a really good run of games before he got crocked. But in terms of the other 5, it’s a really tough decision and a headache for the manager with Gomez making a very credible claim to start on Friday.
Milner played 2 games……….got subbed in both (having played alright admittedly), and then got crocked at Arsenal on 31 August after about 15 mins. His really good run of games ?

Thank god we’ve now got a viable option for post-Baleba.
I was worried they were thinking Hinsh or Ayari. Neither have the physicality for the role.

And a couple of decent threaded passes too. Very promising.

Did we ever find out what happened to Baleba and Ayari last week (happy to be pointed to a thread rather than derail this one)
Well neither we deemed fit enough to complete the 90 minutes…..

Perhaps they were both injured, rather than the conspiracy theories…..😃

Thought he looked pretty promising last night: stronger than I imagined he'd be.

Easy to say he's come from the fairly crappy standard MLS, but he's also done really well for Paraguay in the Copa America, which is probably a higher standard, so he must have something about him.

I'm a bit worried about what he's going to do when it dawns on him he no longer has Messi to pass to though. Perhaps he can put in a good word with the little man: see if he fancies a final hurrah in a proper league next season (for a fifth of his annual salary). Miami beach isn't so different to Brighton beach, is it?

Kaoru Mitoma has proved that sometimes, players prioritise sporting success rather than financial success.

But perhaps the pain of losing him this summer to possibly a Manchester club will be tempered by Messi adding the Premier League to his GOAT career record and getting the opportunity to nurture a protege at the same time?

I doubt he’d want the pressure of joining a big club in the EPL. I also think that we could cover most of his salary with additional sponsorship income and shirt sales.

Football is all about dreaming!

Amazing. Surely it's on! This should be a thread in its own right: Should We Try And Sign Messi For A Season?

It's a demanding role, so I don't expect a pair to see out 90 minutes of every game, which means a chance for regular appearances for another couple of players. But I think we need some consistency in the squad rather than rotation.

Our first choice midfield should be Hinsh and Baleba. Gomez has a really good chance of overhauling Ayari as the (usually) 3rd choice.

Which leaves O'Riley, Wieffer and Milner, if they ever get fit and stay fit, having a real job to get any football at all
