[Albion] Jack Hinshelwood- vital cog in the machine?

Doesn't life feel better with Jack back in the side and in the right position? Yes, I know he played at Forest, but with the team we had out that day and no defensive mid cover, he did remarkably well despite the result and his long period out injured. He was great last night.

I just think he's such an intelligent footballer. Great technical skills, vision & awareness of his team mates, isn't afraid to get stuck in (it was pleasing to see him go after Cucurella at one point). Local lad. gets "it". We shouldn't be in a position where we've really missed a 19 year old with barely one full season under his belt, but I really think we have. He's an unbelievably calm, reassuring presence for one so young.

Long may he stay fit.

I think he just sets a ready good tempo and work ethic which others around him then have to keep up with.

Apart from when he's been thrown under the bus with an impossible task, Jack always looks assured.

Him and Baleba should be first choice when fit

That's exactly it. He drives the play which is exactly what we need (which isn't to denigrate Ayari who has been a revelation).

Agree with all of that, however on the basis of last night I suspect Baleba and Gomez will be first choice before too long.

Baleba, Ayari, Hinshelwood, and now Gomez, is a hell of a midfield 4.

Weiffer and O'Riley the odd ones out at the moment.

Definitely warming to him. Very intelligent player despite having no stand out attributes apart from that

Good player but not a CDM. Not yet anyway. 6-1 away at Villa and 7-0 away at Forest are testament to this.

He is great at progressing the ball forward and his one touch football in and around the middle helps with our attacking intensity.

I agree that he's going to come good. He's just git to play himself in at the moment. We really need to stop these players constantly coming in and out with injuries.

Fantastic player for his age and fantastic player full stop. Unfortunately, the fact we rely on him when he’s fit ironically makes his young, still developing body more injury prone. The Hinshlewood Paradox.

And when he gets the ball he will go forward at pace rather than do the sideways ball every time.
Exciting player.
And a brilliant 'football brain'.

I noticed that when Rutter scored the equaliser he was at the far post ready for a tap in if needed. Definitely an old head on young shoulders.

If you watch him on the highlights just before our first goal out by the east touchline, the way he pretended to turn back but kept going forward was just superb and left his marker wrong footed. That immediately led to our first goal.
