Okay, worst result in decades, but does it matter? Not to me, no - it would be far more worrying if it was a regular occurrence, but it simply isn't.
The knee-jerk/wetting posts on here have me laughing, and there's no doubt that I needed a bit of cheer, after that.
All said and done, we're still doing 'reasonably' well...in the Prem, of all places.
Knock Chelsea out next week and the mood will be entirely different - quelle surprise.

I love supporters who think they know better than the club.

Armchair oligarchs.

Impossible of course but I’d love to know what TB’s thinking about it all. PB’s positive email is irrelevant, he’s a positive person who wouldn’t type anything different in reply and a Spurs fan so it might not hurt as much.

Is TB still 100% behind FH for as long as he wants to be here?

At the time few thought CH would be sacked, a year ago few though RDZ was a goner.

7-0 defeat and people are still throwing around phrases such as ‘knee jerk’ or ‘bedwetting’. nauseating levels of sanctimony. have some standards ffs
No, you’re right. Everyone from Tony down should be sacked. Manager, CEO, groundsmen, tea lady, mascots, Gully. All of them. Or sold. Or both.

The no excuses line is bugging me. I want to hear excuses. I want to know that none of the three midfielders who played today, were deemed fit enough to play 90 minutes as otherwise this was just inept management.

When I heard the line up I told my son we would be looking to win 8-7 as we weren't planning on defending

I posted earlier that I did not like the look of Fab on the bench, curled up, half-dazed and half sulky.
I would have him round tomorrow for a chat.
Then I would trust my gut.
I mean, my 'Tony' gut.
His gut is better than mine.

Personally if I had a replacement lined up I may pull the trigger.
But I know nothing about much and little about football.

Someone on BBC Sussex post-match made a point that nobody was calling for the manager's head after three wins in a row before last week.

Ultimately the biggest gripe people seem to have is that we're not going to get into Europe next season. Thus making this the same as 122 of the last 123 seasons.
Are you saying some fans are reactionary and fickle?! 😂

You’re absolutely right. City really have not progressed at all under Pep.
And where did I mention game on game improvement?
"My feeling is we are going backwards."

And my point was that we are not.
And neither is Pep.
He has had a blip.
So have we (with a bigger splashing sound today, admittedly, although losing 0-4 to Spuds was quite aquatic).

We don't get into the top ten as a blip, then lose 0-7 because that reflects the true quality of the manager.

If we had won today, or even drawn, we would look at the last several games as a terrific run.
We are not going backwards.
Yet.

Another three league defeats on the bounce then I'd fear we are going backwards.
We can revisit in a few weeks

Not really as our season is effectively over.
Really? A chance of Europe and still in the FA Cup?

Personally, I'm still looking forward to the games we've got left.

Trying to put this season in perspective reminds me a little of the Gus' first season in the Championship. Some great results, paired with nightmare performances like the 3-1 defeat to Palace at home (#FFSMurray) and 6-0 to West Ham away. The result was an upper mid table finish. I expect the same this year, albeit maybe 11th or 12th.

I suppose the difference is that that was our first season in a new league, whereas we have been in the Prem a long while now. I don't expect the club to part ways with Fabian during the season, but I imagine in the summer questions will be asked, as they were with Chris Hughton and RDZ.

Anyone who thinks a 7-0 tonking is not going to do psychological damage to the manager and the club is an idiot. This result and performance proves Hurzeler is out of his depth.
Forest lost 5-0 last week and got over it.

The Palace result was 10x worse than today in my world.
The Palace defeat was possibly worse for some (but certainly not all) supporters; but today's humiliation will be far, far worse for the players and their sense of professional pride. It's a horrible scoreline to have on your CV and I doubt any of them have ever been on the wrong end of 7-0 since they turned pro, which is why one disaster (of this magnitude) can and does matter so much.

Of course, it will matter less if they can gather themselves during the week and put things right verses Chelsea. Unfortunately, I sense not all is well in the camp and fear we could easily be looking at something equally as ugly this time next week. (And I don't just mean Cole Palmer).

As others have said context is important.

As is, I guess, your definition of what matters.

If this was a one off random shellacking then no it probably wouldn't matter that much. See Forest last week as a prime example. See BHA 1 - 5 Everton as another. Heavy defeats happen.

However when put in the context of a season where performances, if not results, have consistently been mediocre, where we have evidence of disastrous halves/periods of football and capitulations(Chelsea, Palace, Wolves, Leicester et al), where the same mistakes keep being made, where the tactics and formations are often naive at best then it takes on greater importance. It becomes the culmination of a (half) season long pattern.

It becomes an even bigger issue when the person in charge has no track record to fall back on, when all we can judge him on is the above.

I agree with @Mustafa II when he says in the grand scheme of things for this club it doesn't really matter but for Hurzeler it's huge. He needs a massive positive reaction not just next week but for the rest of the season to get/keep the fans and players on board.
