I don’t blame him either but surely that’s exactly the point? He’s not ready for the Premier League and Hurzeler’s team selections let us down.

Gruda has talent and I’m sure will be a good player, but there’s no way he should be starting ahead of Minteh, Rutter, Adingra or Solly when fit.
At least, not on the wing

The problem was that Veltman was behind him, he is not a player that goes past people so needs an overlap to make space. Nothing was coming down the right hence switch of full backs at ht. He looks to be a very talented young player and I think it was a reasonable choice to select him. Some of our fans are a disgrace writing off young players after a handful of games. Look back on this thread and he was highly praised a few weeks ago. Minteh was also being slagged off a few weeks ago, he has one good game and fans think he should have a guaranteed start. 20 year old players need time to develop, you need to manage game time.

He needs to go out on loan , not good enough yet , simple as that

You’d be forgiven for thinking Gruda was the full back that first half. Everton loaded everything down their left side to Ndiaye and he gave Veltman a torrid time to the extent Gruda covered for much of the half.

It wasn’t just that Gruda was withdrawn at HT, he also switched Lamptey and Veltman for the second half - our lack of natural left back yesterday seems to have evaded much notice.

I totally agree.

I refer to him as our 'Competition Winner' and I've seen nothing to convince me otherwise. I heard Dave the Gaffer say yesterday in the North Stand from where I was stood a couple of rows in front, "What does he actually do?" and I'm in complete agreement.

I know people will say 'he's young, give him time,' etc, etc. But at the MOMENT he's rubbish and a passenger.

His control is very good and he works hard. He can’t beat players though and Isn’t a threat. But he is young and will probably improve.
This would be ok if we’d signed him for £8m, but we went crazy in the summer and paid all kinds of silly money.
That’s not on Gruda.

I think he can beat players but only in one direction (see Brentford), until he can both ways he’s predictable and easy to defend against. Brentford worked him out after 30 mins.

Which is strange because he had the second most successful dribbles by U21 players in the top 5 leagues last season behind only Yamal.

I don't know if it's instructions or confidence but he's not doing it anywhere near as much this year.

Playing Gruda was clearly a tactical move by Hurzeler to nullify Ndiaye’s threat - playing a more defensive right winger, who then slotted back into a wide right back position when we lost possession, with Veltman moving inside as a third centre-half.

Presume he rates Gruda’s defensive aspects over Minteh and Adingra’s (which is fair).

Sometimes I think Fab can be a little too tactically clever though - trying to play to nullify opposition’s strengths rather than exploit our own. What we needed first half was better creativity … when Everton were actually playing, rather than forcing it when they were a goal up and fully parking the bus.

I could see Gruda developing into a March with time - but agree he struggled to make an impact (in attack at least).

I didn’t know that stat . Interesting .
You’d never have guessed going on how he’s played so far .
He’s still young and can improve . I’d have Sarmiento over him atm though

That rumour surfaced yesterday evening but I note FB has remained tight lipped. Whilst not great if true it seems strange to punish as such as require a tactical reshuffle.
If Minteh was left out of the starting X1 because he was late, then that was a very very stupid decision.

Very much this.
Hopefully it comes with experience but Fab needs to be braver and worry less about the opposition.

Best I've seen from him tonight. Looked very on it & useful

I've liked him every game so far. Tonight was his best, and he ran the match in the first half. Just needs the confidence to take players on, and go down the right - and he'll be some player.

Very very good. Looks like a bargain to me.

Really impressed tonight, think he’s a proper player. I’d have given him MOM.

Looking forward to seeing more of him.

Was lovely to watch this evening, getting better and better.

Got lovely feet and quick on the ball. Small but doesn't come across as lightweight. Getting used to the PLs lack of time on the ball and not getting caught as much as he had been.

Still only 20.

Tidy player. The best is yet to come. Genuine.

Easily the best player on pitch first half. Faded after the break. Given time I believe he will be the best of all the summer signings. Very special talent imho

He reminds me a lot of Eden Hazard. If he was only half as good as him, in his prime, I'd be very happy.

For me he was MOM tonight

Less than a month ago on this very thread. I'll just leave them here.
