[Albion] Why wouldn't you start with Georginio and Minteh..

The problem for Gruda, particularly with Veltman behind him, is that he ends up doing so much defensive work that his attacking output is all around the half way line because we’re so slow at moving the ball to our wide men.

He would’ve been perfect to bring on second half with them pinned back, where he could isolate his full back.

Its a weird thread this. Welbeck barely touched the ball, Pedro was completely marked out of doing anything positive in their half, and Mitoma was very ineffective. So why do we think Minteh and Rutter would have fared any better? Gruda would probably have looked awesome if he'd played against that United side last week. Don't blame him for today, its all on Everton's defence

We have had this problem of breaking down teams that come to defend for a long time.
We just don't learn from these defeats.
Far too slow in attack giving the opposition time yo get everyone behind the ball.
I also think Mitoma should be dropped for a few games until he starts going forwards as often as possible rather than copping out with a back pass

I said before the match, Match of the Day spent their analysis last week talking about the benefit of playing Minteh and Mitoma together. I just expected them to be nailed on for starting together today.

It’s a fair point. This week’ selection was the same as last week with exception of Lamptey, who played better than Pervis as LB last week, and Gruda for Minteh.

It’s not as if it was a complete overhaul of team and system. Maybe the players selected should take some blame?

Have to start this game with your strongest team.Rutter and Minteh both warranted starts. Been beaten by average teams at home this season and don’t know why manager is at a loss to address this. He is naive or arrogant with his tactics?

……Because you save some of your best attacking players for when the low block gets tired. However, this does not work so well if the opposition have been given a goal and a lead (whether the fault of Veltman, VAR or the ref).

Back to the drawing board for FH against low block bottom half teams at home.

Which would be fine if you used them effectively. But Gruda was so bad he had to come off and we bafflingly replaced him with Rutter who was always going to try and occupy the same places as Pedro. We filled the centre of the pitch, which Everton wanted to fill anyway. We played Veltman at left centre back in a three out of possession. Then replaced him with Baleba. Then moved Pedro there and stuck Webster up front. That wasn’t impact substitutes. It was a four year old with his first FM save.

Literally the worst tactical coaching performance I’ve seen since Sami.

As I said, back to the drawing board.

Whatever he was trying to do didn’t work but I think he was aiming for a surge in the 2nd half that came but we could get nowhere near breaking down a brilliant low block.

I think we should try and score in the first half next time and take the necessary risks. There was no risk taking at all in the first 45mins and Everton defended with ease.

Naylor says Minteh was dropped because he turned up late
