As far as this war goes, I'm inclined to agree. Any effect should be minimal.

But looking into the distant future, if China is picking over the bones of the carcasses of Russian assets today, then any future profits from them will go to China, and will therefore not be available for Russia to finance future wars.

The smaller Russia is, and the more impoverished it is, the better.

Take a look at what this propagandist, a real war-monger, has to say. He doesn't talk about the war. Instead, he complains about medical facilities in Zabaykalsky, far from Moscow, east of Lake Baikal. and I believe, one of several areas being eyed up by China.

The narrative in Russian state TV might be changing, from 'what can we conquer', to 'we'd better take care of what we've conquered, or someone else will conquer it'.

I don't know if it would be worse if China were not involved. China might buy the mine and then do nothing with it for all we know. The one big advantage of being in a communist dictatorship, is that you're not inconvenienced by pesky elections. So your time horizons for planning can be long. Years, decades, generations long.
With the coming catastrophic fall in population in China (1.18 births per woman), it is possible it won't need the extra fossil fuels for a while anyway.

He needs to be shot for saying such things! Well, maybe the local women feel it's best not to have kids if there are no local maternity hospitals within reach.
Statement about 'non residents' was interesting - I guess he means not Russian, therefore immigrant workers??

Ah yes, that fits in with a few other occasions when 'migrants' have been blamed for various things. Keep a lookout for scapegoating on state TV, as public services continue to suffer as a result of the vast expenditure on the war.
