Part of me wonders whether getting those screamers against City and Chelsea so early in his career have hurt his development as he seems to think he’ll stick it in the top corner from anywhere, whereas actually that’s not how it works at all?

I can't fault him for putting in the effort today; he was certainly trying a lot more than some of our other players. However, his decision-making was poor. I liked how he would always pop up in the right positions but his ability on the ball, whether finishing or passing, is lacklustre. He needs to get up to speed quickly as the Premier League is not forgiving. Perhaps he is better off with a loan, or should we just let him go?

Yes, Solly scoring today after being out for 14 months was wonderful. However, Solly's last goal for us was in August 2023, the second of a brace against Wolves, both assisted by an in form Julio Enciso, who tore his meniscus in the same game and missed six months of the season himself. Julio's last goal for us was four months earlier, the wonder goal against City at the end of the previous season. I was absolutely chuffed for him today. He's been so desperate to get one that you could smell it on him. The finish was inch perfect from an improbable angle. More power to your elbow son. You've worked for it. I hope you can relax back into your best form and start to enjoy playing on instinct again.

Yup, thought he was a different player today. Didn’t overplay, it felt like he was part of the team, and he got the goal he’s been desperate to get for months.

Am really hoping that this is it clicking for him, and we’ve said goodbye to the Enciso that wants to do it all himself.

Doesn't the goal show exactly the opposite?

Something about making the right decisions . . . . It wasn't long ago. . . . Maybe 2 weeks, when strikers, or attacking players would pass that back to recycle . . . . Learn from it and go sideways rouand and back again.

Chance taken.

I don't disagree ( I wasn't one of those complaining about his selfishness).

It was a great finish and I'm happy for him.
But anyone posting that this shows a change in Julio, is mistaken.

There were 2 higher xg options available ( lets be honest.... smacking it as hard as he could against a defender's arse and hoping the rebound went in, would have been higher xg, than the option he took)

Well, the goal was a good bit of individual skill, but it wasn’t one of twenty attempts where he’d ignored team mates and then lost the ball needlessly ending the attack.

There are times where taking the shot is actually the right decision. The keeper was out of position, he saw the chance and took it.

It could be that this was just a “even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day” scenario, but there’s clearly a player in there, and the club obviously agree or he wouldn’t be getting on the pitch. I’ve expressed frustration with him in the past, so only fair to give credit where it’s due. To my eyes he was calmer and less greedy yesterday, and it worked so much better than acting like he was the only Brighton player on the pitch.

cutting back to Giorginio or flashing a cross for minteh to get onto, were better options.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticising him.
I'm firmly in the camp, saying we need a player looking to take a shot and Enciso is that player.

But I do think that scoring his goal, has made posters overlook several times where Enciso did exactly what he has always done in yesterday's game.

Really pleased for him. He’s definitely looking more team focussed. Hope this is the start of a much more positive run for him, with continued genuine impact.

I’m not sure. The impression I came away with after the match was that he’d been a lot more self-disciplined, and there’d been a lot less of:

a) mad wild shots
b) stepover, stepover, lose ball
c) running straight into oppo defenders and being immediately dispossessed.

However, I could absolutely be reading way too much into one performance. It could also be that if I watched the match back focusing only on Enciso, there was more nonsense than I picked up on at the time. It’s given me hope for him, whereas previously I was entirely “he’s not learning, get him out on loan.”
