This is what I’m not quite getting with some, not so much on here, but on other platforms, that want Potter over FH. I see a lot of Potter in FH, but with plenty still to go, despite the plaudits for all the signings this year, I don’t think we have a particularly better squad than under GP
Potter unquestionably had a stellar last 5-6 months in the job, but I do think that is causing some to view his reign in a rose-tinted way. We were average for a lot of those 3 years. He nearly got us relegated and got saved by COVID in his first season. And I maintain that if he’d presided over 1 home win in a calendar year at a time when fans could be in the ground, the atmosphere would have been toxic.

People's expectations are at an all time high! They forget that all clubs - no matter how much they spend - take time to see improvements with lots of new personnel coming in (Chelsea being a good example) and get impacted when injuries hit key players (Man City).

The fact that we are on track with Potter's last season with us - when the squad was good - at this stage with a new manager, lots of new players and many injuries - we have to see that as a positive. That successful 21/22 season had a really bad run in February/ March, which - if repeated - is going to send some of the fanbase head's to Mars!

GP starting his West Ham reign with the 'big club, big tradition, Christmas day' spiel annoyed me. Throughout his time with us we were reminded to be in our place and not dream too big. I agree with sometimes remembering where we have come from but don't be condescending.
Speaking highly of their fans, too. Wonder how long that will last.

Are you saying he should not learn from his mistakes and approach it differently?

Not getting sacked throughout those long winless home runs and six game losing streak gave him confidence to think he could treat the fans that way. The easy job at Brighton quote came from that confidence .
If Bloom had piled on the pressure it would have been a whole different outcome.

TB’s patience started to pay off and he treated the man like shit tbh when he thought he was the big I am in that last season.
Take his original back room team no problem but taking the recruiting staff, Bruno, Roberts the tea lady showed he had no respect for our club or the man who put him on the map to get the likes of the Chelsea job.

How some can big up Potter is a mystery to me he didn’t care about you as fans or our owner.

We were average while most predicted us for relegation. People have a problem understanding this. In retrospect it says a lot about Potters achievements that people apparently thought the team looked like a top 10 side for all three years and thus are still disappointed we didn't finish higher in the first two seasons. Remarkable achievement.

The "1 home win in a calendar year when we couldn't go to home games and it didn't matter if the points came home or away" is a classic on the scale of "if we only had bought four world class players for Roberto, we would have had decent results". People didn't go to games so why the f*** do they care if the points came home or away? Ah, because they have an agenda. That is literally the only reason why you'd give a f*** about which empty stadium a team wins on. All the pitchfork people think they're very clever repeating it but for everyone else very easy to see through the argument and straight in the to that agenda.

Deary me. Graham Potter long since to be a topic of frustration. People's blatant lack of logical thinking is both annoying and worrying however.

Yet you have exactly the same pitch fork agenda against RDZ as some do against GPott.
Something about Stones and glass houses here.

I think the frustration with him is simply that he f***ed off suddenly and rather noisily rinsed our entire coaching staff along with tech advises and quite literally the tea lady and joined a team in our league, it might have been easier for many of us to stomach if he’d f***ed off to Germany, Spain or Italy.

Yes, but he didn't kidnap them. They followed of their own free will. At least I hope that was the case ;)

I hear that all the time, "he was saved by Covid", no one was there to tell him to f*ck off.

I see it the other way round, Covid didn't help him at all.

Fans always say they are the 12:th man, without them the team is f*cked and so on. Well, with fans in the ground, it might well have been a couple of more home wins during that time. Maybe some late winners, spured on by fans on high horses, that fans will say was due to their support (they usually do...).

Covid didn't help the team, why would it?

No way did we look like a top 10 team over 3 years! That is rewriting history. The turning point (imo) was the season before he left when he started playing Caceido and other players started coming into their own. We beat Aresenal away in April 22 and then had a strong finish to the season. We were bang average/below average before then.

So, a good finish to the 21/22 season and a great start to the 22/23 season and within one month, one call from Chelsea and off he trots. For me, it was the manner of his leaving and then his arrogant comments when he left.

When Covid hit we were on 1 win in 17 matches with crowds. We were a shit show. Lost to Palace at home after a laughable own goal spared us another defeat at home to Watford. Knocked out of the cup at home to Sheffield Wednesday ffs. It was piss poor and some of us simply hated watching it.

Our form immediately picked up in lockdown.

Not sure why you think crowds would have helped.

Thought that winless streak was mostly during lockdown (that's how I interpreted all those posts), my bad in that case.

Results wise, you are of course correct. But in terms of ‘looking like a top 10 team’, it is you trying to rewrite history if you ignore our shooting.
In terms of defending stats, chance creation stats and the quality of football, we absolutely looked like a top 10 side over that period. But our finishing was mostly that of a team in 20th place.

The most typical example of Potterball at this time was the home match against Sheff Utd. It was a draw but the chances created should have resulted in at least 4 goals from a League 2 level team. Some of the misses by the likes of Jahanbakhsh and Connolly were unforgivable. NSC went f***ing mental with the ‘Potter Out Campaign’ unable to blame anyone but the manager. But take away the lack of finishing and we played them off the park. We looked so much better than them. As with most of our opponents around that time, they relied on our lack finishing to get results against us which was f***ing horrible and well below League 2 level.

For those 3 years, I always thought we could have a top 6 team of only Potter could get his players scoring, that’s what we looked like. And then he finally did and f***ed off pretty soon afterwards leaving us in 4th where we’d have stayed or improved on if he hadn’t gone.
