I had no idea there was a 3-hour limit 😳
According to club site there isn't.

It doesn't list 1730 ko, but for 3pm it runs to 9pm which is 6 hours after ko, and then it says service runs from 1615 to midnight for 1945 ko.

Youd assume 1730 being in this later window would also run to midnight or be 6 hours after ko?

There's nothing that says 3 hours at all on Albion site I can see.

The dull part of the south coast
This is a strange one. So a few queries that need answering. Were you the last to leave the Amex? The North Stand bars (which are last to shut) close two hours after the final whistle, possibly less for evening matches, which would then mean not a lot happening around the stadium from 9.30. yet you caught the 10.44 train. Were you in the Swan or the 1901?
It’s also strange that you were the one singled out if others had also done the same as you. I’m assuming that the barriers were open to access the platform as per post match travel. My final query is did something else happen that triggered the whole episode?

I am sure that I have seen the 3 hour rule, which is in place to stop folk using it to travel around in town or wherever, as some posters have admitted to. The club pays transport operators for travel to and from the match, and 3 hours is surely long enough for the local area. You were over the time limit, and thus they were within their rights to stop you. yes, 10 minutes as you claim, seems OTT but the line has to be drawn somewhere, or, life being as it is, people will abuse it left right and centre, if there is financial gain to be made. We were probably between 5 and 10 minutes away from the stadium walking towards the ambulance station, and having stayed to the final whistle, when the 7.35 train to Ore passed us, so you were probably best part of 20 minutes over. This does not excuse an assault, if this is indeed an accurate description of what happened,, but had you owned up to being wrong, or listened to what they were saying, then perhaps the issue might have ben settled more reasonably?

OTOH, M'lud, I would suggest that a midnight cut-off for a 7.45 KO equates to a 9.45 cut-off for a 5.30 KO.

I agree there should be clearer, more comprehensive info on the website.

The Avenue then Maloncho
Was a drink involved? Serious question and I’m accusing you of nothing. I would class myself as mild mannered and a non abusive drinker however over the years I have been involved in “misunderstandings” and in my experience one whiff of the booze and the argument is lost as it’s unlikely that any company will take the side of “someone that is drunk” against their own employee.

Southern certainly have some communication to do with their staff.

As part of my travel to the match yesterday I caught a train from Hassocks to Preston Park. Only a few minutes on the train but a ticket inspector happened to be in my carriage. I showed him my match ticket on my phone. He stared at it for a while and said ' This is your football season ticket. Where is your train ticket ? '. I thought he was joking but when it became clear that he wasn't I told him about the Albion travel scheme. He said that he had never heard about that before.........
But the whole conversation was entirely friendly and jovial with he accepted what I had said.

We’re you assaulted or removed from the train?

If it was the former have you reported it to the police?

I think the midnight cutoff is more about the end of the day than a time after the game ends. As posted elsewhere on the thread the club website states 3.5 hrs before and 4 hrs after.

The club’s Pre-Match Brief email always recommends giving yourself additional time to get to and from the Amex.

When we arrived at Falmer at about 1:35, we were held at the barriers and told we’d have to wait 30 minutes or buy a train ticket.

There were quite a few people being held including a mother and her child who had been invited to the pre-match ‘meet the players’ event. There were also several Japanese fans in half and half scarves who didn’t seem to understand the situation.
Eventually one of the Revenue Protection Officers saw sense and let people through.

I can’t see the logic in forcing people to travel in a narrow window rather than spreading customers out over the day. They have our money already, what difference does it make to their operating costs which service we travel on?

My hunch is that the bus and train operators don't want us to see it as a one day "freedom to roam" pass.

I can understand this argument, but people arriving at the Amex more than 3 and a half hours before kickoff are not ‘roaming’. They are choosing to travel early to avoid being held in queues and travelling on congested services.

I agree totally. but I guess for every one person who wants to get to the ground mega-early, the operators may think there's a whole
bunch of people galavanting around Brighton and surrounding areas free of change on the trains and buses. Whether true or
not - that would be my view of what the operators think.

I’m not sure that what the operators might think fans are doing is any of their business. There must be an official agreement between the club and operators with terms stating the hours the free travel scheme is available for use by fans. Someone posted on here a screenshot from the club website stating those hours. It’s in black and white (or blue and white). There should be no argument.

Worthing
Sadly a number of these 'guards' enjoy an argument and will do all they can to provoke one. I was once held in the Western queue at Brighton station. The train pulled in whilst others got on from the main concourse. Once it was clear the guards were not going to open the access, we all had to run around back to the main concourse by which time we missed our train. They were falling apart laughing.

All it would take is a poster clearly displaying the last valid train and there would be no dispute and it would also clarify the position for the more obstructive staff.
