I’m out getting some steps in on this gorgeous sunny day. Lovely views …

Belatedly, I'm in.

I lost 7 lb in November and put 5 back on in December. Now, I'm on a mission to get back to the weight I'm happier with.

I am currently camped out at my mum's so not getting out with the dog anywhere near as much as usual. When she went to bed last night, I ran a 3.2-mile/30-minute run in her lounge which is only 9 strides long.

Her house is a sauna, so even though I was stripped to my boxers (delightful image for you all to consider there), I had to break it into 3 * 10-minute chunks as I was dripping with sweat.

I have been quite fit throughout my 50s and into my 60s.

However, I had a bad 2024 where my Mojo disappeared and healthy eating and drinking habits were abandoned. I weighed myself for the first time in ages on Boxing Day and was not happy.

So…I will join in with this a bit. I’m giving up crisps, sweets, chocolate etc and cutting back on my drinking. I have been to the gym three times since Christmas - the target for this is three times a week - and I’ll get back on my bike when the weather improves.

Let’s see how it goes.

I was 96kg this time last year, got down to 86 :D, now back up to 90 :(.

I'd like to be under 85kg. 82 (13 stone) would be nice, but probably a step too far.
Me too! (Almost)
After 9 days in Italy I have put on a kilo - my in-laws food is so effing good! Also, my sister in law owns a pizzeria - the pizza is way better than anything I have eaten in the UK. So that doesn’t help! I walk on the beach for about 90 mins a day, as well!
This morning I weigh 89.5kg. At the start of November I was 95.1, so still a long way under that. By the end of January (though I’m still here for another 5 days eating too much!) I want to be 85kg.

Scary number of calories in a big pizza - well over 1,000 for a full pizza. If you like Italian food far better to go for a pasta dish, but be wary of creamy sauces.

Went up 2.3kg from weight in on Xmas day morning to New Year’s Day- already down 0.7kg by tonight. Decided to try and do dry January as well but that might mean all the fun has gone and I got 5 new bottles of whisky for Xmas which I’ve only tasted one so far.

I aim to try and lose 5kgs in January. I’m going to try and cut right down on the booze. At circa 200 calories per pint, that’s a big starter. Also aim to keep my food calorie intake to max 1100 per day, which is a 1000 calorie deficit per day compared to the 2100 per day recommended for someone my age with a sedentary lifestyle, that should achieve a 4000 calorie deficit (which is equivalent to 0.5kg weight loss) every 4 days. Add on a few sessions on the rowing machine at home (the roads are too icy most days) and this 3 pronged attack should do it.

I said I wouldn't post daily weight updates, but I am still weighing myself daily and it's been a good start.

1.5lb down since Wed. I know (im told, at leaat) in the beginning some of this is easy water loss, but I'm taking the wins where I can.

I hope you're all getting going too.

Like you, I weigh daily, as I find it acts as motivation to me. It gives me an idea of things that may not work, and those that do.

Starting point January 1st - 14st 6lb, today - 14st 5lb.

Would be nice to get down to 14st before we go away on the 13th, as we are away for 4 nights, which is guaranteed to put some more weight back on! :)

As Friday is my usual weigh day, and the 31st is a Friday, I'm checking in today with 12st 11.
That's 2lb less than Wednesday, but as we all know weight doesn't always fluctuate lineally.
Heading in the right direction though!

Just be a bit careful if you are restricting calorie intake to the point of a large calorie deficit at the same time as increasing activity. Getting the balance right can be tricky. If you are running a 1000 calorie deficit BEFORE the exercise is taken into account you may need to consider the size of the deficit .

I tend to agree with this. I believe the best way to lose weight, and keep it off, is to change your habits. Crash diets to get to an ideal weight won't change habits, and you're likely to yoyo.

But calorie deficits are the only way to lose weight - so go for it, but understand as much as you can about how your body works and plan from there.

Ps I'm not great at this and struggle to ditch my comfort eating. I probably need to look further in to that to get to the root cause of my own unhealthy eating habits.

First weigh in of the year as have been in Budapest, now 16 stone 8. Need to get below 16 as a first target, so lifestyle changes aimed at are no bread or sweets, it worked for Lenny Henry!

I was 14 stone 2 when ran the last marathon. Have bought a bike and awaiting delivery to allow me to get out more as due to knackered knee impact exercise difficult.
