Agree that the body language of the players is very concerning. Mitoma was visibly pissed off when taken off (appreciate that's not an uncommon trait in pro footballer's and nothing to worry about) but Fab stayed sat on the bench and couldn't even be arsed to get up to shake his hand and thank him for his efforts. I wouldn't have thought that distance and lack of appreciation would go down well with some of the players. The body language of most of them was worrying for the final quarter of the game. Walking around, slumped shoulders, completely static when playing out from the back. They had the air of a team losing 3-0. One interpretation is that the youngsters are just lacking a bit of confidence and belief currently, which is understandable. The more worrying alternative is that they don’t have total faith in what they’re being asked to do. Footballers won’t take long to blame the former on the latter if they’re not winning.
I agree they’re trying hard. But working your socks off by repeatedly running blindly into trouble and losing possession - as several of them did - isn’t effective. The lack of options in possession was pretty clear from the WSU. Whether that’s teammates not working hard enough off the ball or a tactical failing, I wouldn’t know.
I have no justification for this other than a hunch but I get the feeling some of the players just haven't bought in to this system (or lack of) and with players clearly being frozen out in favour of Fab favourites, I can see him losing the squad before long if we don't start winning.
I don't think it helps that Fab just doesn't come across as a likeable or warm character. Seems quite arrogant to my eyes/ears without much evidence to back it up. Would happily be proven wrong but when a manager is losing support amongst a minority (but based in this poll a significant minority) he's got to turn things around big time to win people over. Let's all hope he does but I'm not convinced.
