I think there's a fair chance that the pundits could become really entertaining as next year progresses. We will see.
You can only hide things from the public for so long. People start to notice when the price of their food basics goes through the roof and they can’t get their hands on fuel quite so readily. Especially in the middle of a particularly cold winter (as it currently is in Russia, around 10 degrees below average).

And when they can't afford their mortgage, and in desperation, put their property on the market, and find that the number of buyers is collapsing, due to bankruptcies in the private sector, and layoffs in the public sector. And those potential buyers who are left, are unable to afford the 25%+ mortgage rates to buy it off them anyway.

It was just a bit of throwaway banter after a tough day here. I did watch most of it later, and I agree they are important in their own way... it's one of the few direct windows we have on their media and society.

What a load of nonsense. What would Russia gain by firing missiles at UK towns and cities? That would mean a full war with NATO, and Russia can't handle that.

So tell me when, over the last 100 years, Russia has done something like that? Russia aren't completely illogical idiots, their warmongering over the past has brought them success. Firing missiles at a NATO country would bring them disaster.

I don't think that is a valid approach to Russia's warmongering. There's a first time for everything. I think that's a proverb.
Your last sentence suggests that you think it a foregone conclusion that Nato would win a conflict with Russia. I happen to think you are right. But does Putin agree with us? He has been pushing the boundaries, testing Nato responses, probing for weakness for decades. Why might he be doing it?
It can, but you're saying 'this is Russia we are talking about' and they aren't logical. Where is the evidence to say that they're not logical?
He's struggled so much against one small nation, so I imagine he realises he's no match for the 32 countries in NATO.
Because he's been gambling that the West/NATO won't do anything as long as he doesn't attack them, and he's been basically right there. But being able to annex Crimea and part of Georgia is quite different to firing missiles at the UK.
Probably, but they would take a heck of a lot of lives and make a hell of a mess before we could mobilise....they aren't exactly articulate when they let rip...
That's always been the case, and always will be. But I can't see the point in Russia starting a war against us.
