The most depressing thing for me today for me is the battering Lewis Dunk has been getting. He has been consistantly our best player for 15 years. Rise above it Lewis
He hasn't been our best player consistently for 15 years. He's been our best player for PARTS of that time, granted.

He is undoubtedly a club legend, but that doesn't make him immune to criticism which is entirely fair IMO.

Sussex but not by the sea
We also have a keeper who seems to be incapable of releasing the ball quickly, in the 1st half yesterday he caught a corner, Palace had most of their players up, Mitoma was 1v1 on the halfway, Bart hangs onto it and eventually rolls it out to Dunk, it happened more than once. Or maybe that's his instructions to hold it?

Just far enough away from LDC

I think that's as much about dunk seemingly needing everything to go through him. I get it, he wants to lead us and drive us on but at times it's the wrong thing to do

Yeah maybe need Steels experience, and definitely need to drop Dunk , he needs to get back up to speed ,
and what we need most of all in the team is a lot more urgency to get the ball moving quicker, and passing quicker,

Our recruitment genius has failed in building succession into our defense. Dunk should have started the phase out last season

we have no left or right bak cover for Veltman or Estupinian. Igor is no better/worse than Dunk, neither good enough for our aspirations of top 7 . . .

JPVH will be sold (VVD replacement) before the rebuild is complete, which is the wrong way round.

I suppose it was to be expected after losing our first home game of the season, especially to them. Our first game lost at home this season and it is nearly Christmas, of course this place is going to be “meltdown central”! 9th in the table, above Spurs, Man Utd, Newcastle et al and some want to sack the Manager, Captain and anyone else they can think of. Wouldn’t have it any other way personally.

Phasing Dunk will be a difficult (but increasingly necessary task) - I think hes seen by the club/some fans and players as the leader and club representative. Could it cause a dressing room split?

Estupinan had a superb first season but I just dont think hes good enough.

From the current squad I think Estupinan, Ferguson, Lamptey (if not played further forward), Webster are not good enough to take us to that ''next level''

I cant believe he is getting the grief he is. Lewis reads the game as well as anyone and is still one of the best footballing centre backs in the division. He is never going to be the best in a one to one foot race and neither is it his game to play in a very high line. Another victim of the new way of playing for me

Scapegoating Dunk is a load of nonsense. The way we set up in the second half, any centre-back would be dreadfully exposed. He didn’t cover himself with glory by failing to win the header on the 3rd, but have a look at Van Hecke’s position. Where was the cover? Traditionally, the second CB would help out after the first attacked the ball. That’s not necessarily blaming JPVH - it’s just the danger of everyone pushing up so much.

This happens all the time.

I think there is a view that we have to reset our shape, before we start our attacks.

It's hugely frustrating.

People are ****s.

Plenty of those throwing Dunk under the bus are the ones who said Gross was done four years ago and so forth.

Its all connected. Their lack of intelligence not only makes them have a go at Lewis Dunk, but also prevents them from learning from mistakes they've done in the past, such as labelling players "finished", "shite" or "brilliant" prematurely over and over again.

Support the f***ing captain who bleeds blue and white. He's spent his entire adult life fighting for us, the LEAST people could do is to show him some sort of respect.

Spot on... We could be playing Saliba & Gabriel and they would still be exposed.

FH wont blame experience, but we are missing it.
Just a few of the lads that have 150 games under there belt, not under 50 games in a career.

Veltman
Ferdi
Weiffer
O'Riley
Welbeck

They all start for me when fit, Men not boys as it were, and as good as those younger lads are.

The main problem with defending in recent games, all stems from the midfield. Gone are the superstars, Caceido, Mac Allister, Gross etc. I'm hoping new signing Gomes is strong and him playing regularly alongside Baleba, will at last give our defence some needed protection in front of them.

Dunk made his mistake for the third goal when the game was already beyond us. Van Hecke for the first and Lamptey for the second were much more game-deciding errors. Yes we all know that his very high levels have begun to ebb over the past 18 months or so but that doesn't mean he won't still play an important role for us. Playing every game at his age now though was a miscalculation by the recruitment team
