[Albion] Is Palace the least attractive game of the season?

I wasn’t here in the 70s and have no interest in some ancient shouting match between Mullery and Venables. I respect the fact that it means a lot to the old-timers on here, and to some of the younger Brighton fans I know who seem to have inherited the emotions. I don’t deride that but honestly, it’s just another match to me. I’m desperate to win it just as I was desperate to win at Fulham and Leicester last week. It’s all about the three points, and that’s it. Mind you, when I’m at the game I know I’ll be wound up by the taunts of the Palace fans if we’re not ahead as I sit closer to the south than the north. So a couple of early goals please to keep them quiet.
That was the joy in this match last season. Dunky put them back in their box after two minutes and it was all downhill for them from then on. Watching the fans turn on their own players at the end was sweet.

Looks like some Palace fans are transferring tickets for tomorrow to others. I can't believe that's with the permission of the club.

To me, yes. To others, no. I explained it, I thought. I don’t have any interest in the Mullery-Venables thing.
I feel quite sad for you really, having a rival is part of football culture. Having never experienced the unique feeling of derby day must be rather strange. I cannot imagine being a fan without it. Must be like supporting Reading or the like.

As others have alluded to, I love it and hate it in equal measures. The feeling when we win is absolutely the best ever. Much, much better than winning ANY other league match. But conversely, the feeling if losing, is bloody horrible.

Thats not fans transferring tickets between themselves, the poster is questioning the likelihood of two different membership levels both being successful in the clubs ballot to allocate away tickets. Unsurprisingly demand for away tickets exceeds our allocation for this game.

This,
as for the empty seats, is it ok to say a) it’s got fúck all to do with me and b) I couldn’t give two knobs of goat shit?
Personally i’ll be in full voice encouraging my son to do the same . If anyone chooses to support the Albion by watching on Sky while consuming a lovely gravy dinner with all the trimmings and a nice can of ice cold lager then all I can say is “you enjoy!”
It’s a free country, let’s accept that.

I'm deeply touched by your compassion. Not many people understand how devastated I feel not to care about Mullery and Venables having a row 50 years ago.

The only club I’ve ever really despised for any length of time (even further back than Mullery-Venables) is Chelsea. Enemies come and go and get left behind after a while. But Chelsea will always be there.

Would love to be there, but made family Christmas plans ages ago (when the game was on a Monday). My two WSU tickets have sold on the exchange.

All things being equal, ie setting aside "awkward" kick-off times / holiday season etc, is Palace the least attractive / least in-demand game of the season?

I ask having checked the ticketing site and, only adding up very roughly, there are in excess of 1,500 tickets available to buy on the ticket exchange.

Is the supposed hassle factor just so great that a load of people just can't be arsed?
My ticket is on the exchange (like a lot of other peoples) because of the moving target of when the match was going to be played. Played on the Saturday - no problem I can go, on the Monday - no problem, then it moves to Sunday and that is the day I made myself available for a family occasion. Very fecking annoying. Also, a lot of parents with young kids will give this match a swerve as past experience has shown it's a sweary, beery, nasty atmosphere in the ground, on the trains and in the queue at the station.

Did you look further than the first post? And this wasn't the only one.

Detest them, but reading their board is quite good as they are very knowledgeable fans and know their stuff, proper football fans. Unlike the plastic 6, who I cannot stand. Just hope they are fuming at 4pm tomorrow. Their predictions are very similar to here.

So definitely a Johnny Come Lately Albion fan, we had hardly ever played Chelsea before we made the PL. Who did you support back in the Venables/Mullery days?

Everyone is totally entitled to an opinion although in this particular instance your is totally misguided.

This is the thing, I fuckin hate their shitty club and hope they go down, but I know a few individually and drank with a few at Sussex v Surrey and generally know their stuff and accept, let’s face it, we have more in common than most would admit.
However as a collective i think they’re wankers

I don't agree with that. The Palace and Brighton rivalry, like most rivalry really, is nonsensical. The only reason folk have it in many cases is because they inherited it. 20 odd thousand Albion fans have not come to an independent conclusion that Palace are an enemy. Especially given that this is not a life threatening dispute but twenty two, mostly mercenaries, kicking a bag of air around a patch of grass. And an apparent dispute between two ex-pros is no ground to start a 50 year campaign of hatred.

But it's fun, it's theatre, and in that sense I buy into it. But nothing more than that. I don't like losing to Palace and I don't like seeing them above us. But in the end it really doesn't matter. The need for a rival is more based in personal validation rather than genuine a genuine gripe. In real terms it's insecurity and need. But, as I said, in footballing terms and given a benign context it's fun. I shall enjoy the pantomime tomorrow and may be a bit disappointed more than usual if we lose. But not much.

As for not getting the club by virtue of not subscribing to the Platinum Rivalry Membership, I should imagine that having first watched us at a friendly in May 1977 and traveled to see us at most league teams in the country should suggest I at least have a passing understanding.

I enjoy disliking them, but the nonsense associated with it- with bigging it up fighty morons from both sides massively reduces the enjoyment.

The Mrs also has a season ticket and the behaviour of both sets of fans, particularly the always ultras, is putting her off this game every season.

I'd like to see them relegated, laughter at them and not have to play them anymore.

The pantomime is not worth it.
