Excuse me…..I am a retired engineer from Forest rowI expect this has been said already. But the proportion of our fans that see this as the absolute must not miss biggest game of the season, that will create an intimidating atmosphere in the ground and in the town before the game is a lot smaller than it is at most comparable clubs. It’s exactly the same reason why there are so many threads about our home atmosphere. Palace fans will claim it is because so many Brighton fans are people who are second-teamers, which is partly true, but mainly it’s just the demographic of the area, I think.
If the vast majority of our fans came from Brighton it might be different, but they don’t. A large proportion of them come from sleepy Sussex towns and villages. That’s why our fan base is a bit flakey.
That’s not meant to be a dig or a criticism, it’s just the way it is. It’s actually the same for Palace as well, as much as they would argue it. Their home atmosphere is basically 200 teenagers in black hoodies and the rest of the ground is a load of accountants from Reigate.
