I make a point of trying to read Rosenberg’s daily summary of the Russian press. It’s very educational. Today for example I learned from Lavrov that the war started when Russia was attacked by the USA using the “hand of Ukraine”. Assuming he didn’t present his views as the joke of the day, Lavrov must be hoping that Russians have a short memory and have forgotten that Russia didn’t, as previously announced, kick it all off with a special military operation. The state PR seems to be getting a bit disjointed, inconsistent and confused and we should expect the head of comms to soon be given flying lessons from an 8th floor window. Of course that’s my “western” view and sadly I’m sure many Lavrov’s target audience will believe him.

I’ve seen reports that the protests in Georgia are not confined to Tbilisi but have now spread nationwide. Belarus may also be one to watch given the imminent 25th anniversary celebrations of the formal alliance with Russia, though they will no doubt have anticipated potential civil unrest.

It means the process will be restarted from scratch, with the government due to decide a date for a new vote.
The first round was won by Calin Georgescu, an almost unknown far-right Nato-sceptic who has previously praised Vladimir Putin.
The court's decision comes after intelligence documents were declassified, suggesting Georgescu benefitted from a mass influence operation – conducted from abroad – to interfere with the result of the vote.

Indeed. Our western view is that consistency and some logic matters in comms...it clearly doesn't to Russia!

According to a BBC report yesterday, quoting Defence Intelligence, Russia lost an average of 1523 men per day in November. That's just over one man every 60 seconds.

Ukraine took out radar and anti-aircraft defence systems in Crimea a week or two ago. At the time, I thought they might be planning something.
Now they've used naval drones to attack gas rigs off Crimea, used by Russia for surveillance systems.
They may well be planning something, but there is another takeaway from this. Their actions suggest that they don't accept Crimea remaining in Russian hands for much longer.
I wonder if they've had a sniff of the contents of the peace deal?
