An interesting podcast so far. I'm only halfway through ( it's 48 minutes long), and I no longer run a business.

However, he has already mentioned several things that resonate with the way I see trying to achieve weight-loss. Having been on a weight-loss programme 10-11 years ago ( kindly paid for by the NHS as my BMI was 30..! ), the various ways of achieving the desired goals are so many. It's often a case of finding one that suits. I shall listen to rest tomorrow.

And I'm still looking for more sensible suggestions and variety of healthy dishes from anyone.

This evening I will be focussed on one of the recipes El Presidente suggested the other day ( also The Hairy Bikers ? ).
From recollection, the first half was the bit most focused on weight loss, so you could skip the rest and not miss too much.

I had a listen, and whilst suspecting that he was gettting his steps in at times as tended to repeat some points perhaps a wee bit too much, the big takeaways for me were

1: Keep it simple
2: If it can be measured it can be managed, a great phrase that I've not heard before, which brings us back to tales of Guppy Saunders' todger once more.
Yeah.

When I had become properly fat a few years back and was on my "I need to get this sorted out" mission over the course of seven months or so, I used MyFitnessPal to track calories. In the same way Matt was describing, I quite enjoyed the gamification of that. Essentially no food was off-limits, I just needed to keep to my daily calorie target.

I particularly enjoyed it when I was working away from home. I've never really been one to go to a restaurant and ask for a table-for-one, so would generally head to a supermarket and, again, enjoy seeing just how much food I could gather for the evening and still keep to my calorie goal.

He can ramble a bit - his podcasts are unscripted - he just wanders around his basement, in which he has installed his own microbrewery, getting his steps up and just talking as he does so.

Day 1: 16st 4.0lb
Day 19: 15st 12.4lb
- 5.6lb

Definitely back on track. Big danger today and tomorrow - two days away working in London.

Typically, a slap up feed in the evening that my wife would be horrified to know about plus biscuits, crisps etc back at the hotel. Pastry breakfast tomorrow (Ole & Steen 🤤) and two M&S sarnies plus more biscuits probably for a late lunch.

No one would know, no one to tell me off, no one to be disappointed in me.

Other than you lot. I'm hoping that a very honest pre-confession here will help me find a bit of backbone and self-respect.

Cut out the biscuits, crisps and definitely the etc. in the evening and only have one M&S sarnie - might help! :D

14st 3lbs, which is pleasantly surprising after have had some fairly non-diet friendly meals on Thursday and Saturday with the family.

Also, fans of measuring in lbs will note that it takes me below the 200lbs mark. :O
A major milestone smashed. Well done !

A bit of well intended tough love here (!).
You know what you’re eating and the quantities you eat when you are away. You also know how hard you’ve worked to lose the weight you have lost already.
You will be disappointed in yourself. How about going for a walk or using the hotel gym/pool if they have one rather that bingeing on crisps and biscuits? We’ve all done it but in a few minutes the taste has gone, the cravings remain and you’ve added a lot of bad calories.
Not meaning to preach 😉🤣

Thanks. Totally taken as it was intended.

I got a book out of the library by Pip Payne called The Slimming Foodie in Minutes.

A lot of really good recipes, all under 600 calories.

She has written a few books - well worth a look.

Thankyou for the heads up on that.

I have just looked online and Waterstones have 5 in stock. It looks exactly the sort of thing I want. I'm not back in the UK until 16th December but I shall ask my partner to order one for me or pick it up on one of her frequent trips into Brighton.

My update . 2 weeks down as of today on a planned 5 week cut I was doing anyway
Started 86.4kg
week 1 85.4 kg down 1 kg
week 2 84.7 kg down .7kg. actually lost .4kg overnight so makes it a little better.

Goal was 82kg but I don't think im going to make that. Haven't cheated in the week, haven't had any alcohol and have averaged 10k steps (goal was 11k)

Little bit disappointed to be fair with how strict I've been but weight doesn't come off in a linear manner. I can see in the mirror the weight coming off but not on the scales. I also think anecdotally that your body has sticking points, and I seem to have one at 85kg so hopefully it should start moving again.

to try to hit my goal I'm upping my steps to 12k a day and reducing my food intake from 175g protein 50g fat 190g carbs to 175g protein 50g fat 140g carbs per day. protein needs to stay same for muscle retention, fats are at minimum anyway so can only cut out carbs. im not going lower than that as I will just be miserable. Sometimes just a little tweak like that can kickstart the weight loss again.

Reckon im 15/16% bodyfat . Have abs , veins in my chest so im pretty lean anyway . But as others have said ignore body fat % from scales they dont have a clue . even dexascan and body fold calipers done by a pro arent that accurate. Best off looking at pics. Even that doent matter really . I just cut weight off till i get as lean as poss (full 6 pack) which i do pre holiday / summer then bulk up till the abs fade away and i feel a bit fat then rinse and repeat.

Sorry if that ramble is a bit boring but im a bit of a nerd when it comes to this . well done to everyone
replying to myself here but after dropping my food intake ive dropped 0.9kg in 2 days !! that is 2.8 kg in 16 days . Way too quick and risking muscle loss. it looks like i jumped the gun on dropping food and will put it back up on monday . Having a cheat sat as out for beers and alcohol so will see how that goes

Yesterday morning I was feeling quietly confident of hitting a 7lb loss by the time I stood on the scales on the morning of 1st December, but since then...

1. My sister is now coming down to stay Thursday - Sunday this weekend. This is a great thing. However, when she's here and we get home from our mum's, the evenings are largely spent drinking a lot of wine, eating a lot of crisps and watching classic 80s/90s films. Three nights of that sort of behaviour will hit hard.

2. There seems to be an old Scars and Stripes pub/curry thing taking shape for next Thursday night around Soul Finger's book signing.

3. 1st December is a Sunday, meaning Friday and Saturday's family fun food will have happened. I've been partaking in that this month despite my weight-loss aims. I suspect, stripping out random fluctuations, my weight goes down Monday to Friday afternoon and then goes up again from Friday to Sunday evenings. Sunday morning is probably when I'm around my heaviest in any weekly cycle.

And to compound 3, we're at home on the Friday night so there will be football cider/pie temptations, as well as my ususal post-match chillout on here with wine.

TL;DR - I'm significantly less confident of hitting the target now!

You'll be fine @Bozza . Could you involve your sister and your family in this and get them to root for you to hit 7lbs? Don't forego the family fun, but give them the job of keeping you on the straight and narrow. Enlist a load of supporters. Report your weight loss to them - they'll want you to "win" I would think.

Nah - what will be, will be.

Losing seven pounds in November isn't actually important - enjoying good time with family and friends very much is.

I say that knowing that I'm very much in the right frame of mind now - I'm not hitting the wine and late night snacks a a matter of course, and generally making better decisions most ()not all) of the time.

This thread has helped me get back on track. That would have happened anyway, but probably not until the New Year when I'd have piled on more weight, and would be commencing Project Weight Loss from an even heavier starting point.

My aim now is to get back to my regular weight of around 12st 7lb, and doing so by the end of March feels like a realistic timescale given the festive period and how weight loss will slow once the first easy pounds come off.

I'll weigh in this Friday, next Friday and on the 1st of December and post the result here, but I wouldn't be surprised if this Friday is the lightest I end up being in November.

If it’s self respect you’re after. Just have a Pot Noodle and a w*nk, mate.
