Don't see why we would do this unless Gomez is going out on loan, which seems unlikely.

The idea of having someone that turned down the chance to be a key player for us to go and warm their bench doesn't sit well.
I’d say that KDH is now pretty good at ‘sitting well’, actually.

Really? £1M would only account for £20K a week in lost wages - and wages offered elsewhere might be a lot more than £20K a week less than Chelsea wages.
Going down from, say, £250K a week to a beggarly £100K is a loss of £2.5M, every year; that's, for example, £7.5M over a three year contract - by comparison, £2M is pretty measly compensation (in the eyes of a PL footballer and his agent anyway!
I don't believe he's anywhere near that at Chelsea. They have started bringing players on lower wages but long contracts. Having a quick scan, he's on about £80k-£100k per week on a six-year deal, plus bonuses.

That's well within Villa's wage range, so he may even get a pay rise

Take your point - but see my post #1534 - the £250K was a typo - I'd meant it to be £150K. I thought I'd corrected it, but obviously I didn't for some reason.
If you do the maths, you'll see that if I had meant £250K my maths would have been way-out inaccurate; they're not!

Of course, if your £80 to £100K is closer to reality than my £150K a week guess, yes, that would be in Villa's price range (or West Ham's, and probably a fair few other clubs).

Chelsea attract players via contract length. KDH has a 5-year deal. There will be all sorts of performance bonuses but it’s hugely unlikely that he is getting six figures per week over 5-years. He’ll have a basic contract value of X that can be Y if he hits certain markers. That’s why agents (and players) like Chelsea - guaranteed income and security in an insecure industry. It’s also why Chelsea have a problem shifting players bought in during the Boehly era.

I don’t know how Moder, Milner and Wieffer get ahead of O’Riley, Baleba, Ayari and Hinshelwood for the two midfield players, if you add KDH and Gomez to that waiting list, we are going to have a lot of quality midfielders missing out on squad selection, let alone team selection.

I wouldn't believe too much of what's in the public domain about player wages. There's a reason that he didn't come to us in August, and it's likely to be due to a significantly higher salary. Although, I guess you shouldn't underestimate the attraction of a long contract. I imagine a guaranteed 5m a year for 6 years, regardless of how good you are or whether or not you get a career-ending injury, will help you sleep at night.

I'm sure this has been covered before, but @Bozza indicated months ago that it RDZ (specifically something he did or didn't do) was the main reason the KDH move broke down (apologies if I've got that wrong, boss), not the player himself.

Milner is near the end, Wieffer is either not ready or not good enough but either way, not really usable yet, Moder isnt good enough and we tried to bin him off to Leicester in the KDH deal.

So I wouldn't even consider those 3 as anything other than squad/backup who may leave or be moved out.

The elephant in the room is Facundo at Leicester, who is doing great, wouldnt mind us recalling our young Argie superstar and having him in the mix
