Massive news. Olaf Scholz of Germany who has been weak and indecisive/appeasing re Ukraine, coalition government has just collapsed.

If Merz of CDU (Merkels party) who are largest opposition and ahead in most polls, becomes head of new coalition, he is massively pro Ukraine and says he will allow Taurus cruise missiles and long range strikes.

Risk is if Afd get in, the fascist party who will cut off Ukraine.

Blimey....just when I thought I'd had enough news today 😉. As you say, solutions are very black or white for Ukraine.

It happens to the best of us (and me as well). Last night, I posted a video of a beaver eating cabbage on the US election thread.
Having trouble getting that beaver one out of my head...🤣.
I initially posted a video of a US edition of HIGNFY. Actually quite funny, especially the compere, although I didn't know the 'celebrities'. Joe Blogs would have found it funny I reckon 😁.

I wonder what prices are like in Kursk at the moment.
Read something the other day about Russian soldiers looting houses of civilians who had been ordered to evacuate in the face of Ukrainian advances in Kursk. Civilians said there were no Ukrainians in the area, only Russian soldiers. Stealing from your own, what a morale booster for the civilian population !!

But no real surprise.

Yes, I've seen videos posted (CCTV evidence) of Russian soldiers looting shops, businesses in Kursk of whatever they could get their grubby hands on and stick in a trailer 🤷🏼‍♂️

Well, if you let criminals out of prison and let them loose with guns, what do you expect?

Given the electorate, that seems fairly appropriate to me

There seems to be a recent spate of sharp observations on here. This just won't do.

This thread is for armchair generals, who emit a loud groan when we get out of the chair, by which time it's Friday. Plodding dinosaurs who read a lot, but retain very little, and who can't remember where they read something when challenged.

Keen observations by young upstarts will be the undoing of us.

Is this pure speculation, or is it based on anything? Make of it what you will:

The replies say it all really.
Russia then re-arm while the west do what... maybe drip feed Ukraine again.
A lot could happen in 20 years... actually, it's plenty of years for Ukraine (and everyone else watching) to develop their own nuclear deterrent...as being a nuclear bully clearly works. Nice one 👍

It's rewarding Russia.

I kind of expected a de-militarised zone. But under Russian control?

And why delay Ukraine's entry to NATO for 20 years? So that Putin has the opportunity to die of natural causes?

Both Putin and Trump to die in that timeframe 👍.
I edited my reply...20 years is plenty of time for Ukraine and anyone watching...to develop their own nuclear deterrent, to defend themselves from bullies.

Ukraine to cede 20% of their country to Russia. Obviously that'll be an immediate and unequivocal no.
It would appear to directly contradict a report I saw, in which Zelensky reported an 'excellent' phone call with Trump.

Either one or both reports is/are false, or Trump is shaping the deal.
