Imho it’s not. That’s just error one. Goals are often conceded as a team affair, other errors had to happen for the ball to end up in our net almost the length of the pitch away.
The problem is, you’ve not actually said where the other errors are, except that we just shouldn’t have attacked following a successful press. I get that you don’t want to blame Weiffer, but sometimes the answer is the most obvious one.

The goal isn’t Wieffers fault. Yeah his pass is dreadful and gives the ball away but he’s well into their half. Losing the ball that far up the pitch should not result in a goal down our end regardless. The fact that we didn’t defend it properly is really the fault here.
How do you think the defenders should’ve stopped it when they were outnumbered on the counter, following his moment of school boy football?

Comedy pass followed by flukey deflection, shit happens. His bad hair also attracts vitriol.

Barely played, hopefully he'll get better.
I was going to post something similar.
sh1t happens. Get over it.
it doesn’t make him a bad player or us a bad team.

We’ll agree to disagree.

It’s such a bad error it will go down in Albion folklore like the Hawkins and Hinshelwood own goals at Withdean. It’ll still be being spoken about years from now, that’s why Wieffer has now got so much to do to turn his image around.
Hopefully the image stuff isn’t true and we’ll try and get behind him as a fanbase. It’s crucial we back a player in the ground to help get their confidence back.

But it has to go on record that that was the worst pass played by a men’s professional footballer on the Amex pitch.

At Goodison Park, Weiffer lost possession in a dangerous place - it was an error that happens with defenders, but you can’t blame him for Dunk’s subsequent tackle. The number of times Dunky has made errors that have lead to own goals, careless/schoolboy error shit happens.

More pertinently, also in the highlights posted above, it was Weiffer’s impressive footwork, agile turn in MF and his assist to Danny that resulted in the second goal that day - his debut Premier League match.

It is ridiculous to knit pick errors out of an entire game by a player (however costly those individual errors are) who is still bedding into the side, especially on his debut in the EPL. Yesterday’s error was appaling but it will haunt Weiffer far longer than it will with any of us I’m sure.

Since when do we dismiss players after them only starting 2 games with us?

Let’s see how he is by January.

I’ve seen wieffer help us close out games well .

Yesterday was a diabolical pass

I’d say overall he is about 5/10 so far

Which explains why on the bench

I think he could get to a 7/10

By defending! If one Wolves player managed to defend by being in the right place to pick up Wieffer’s ball, then I expect us to be able to do the same and make some fist of stopping them scoring.

Are you sure you mean ‘Everton’ because he was really impressive at Goodison Park in August.

You must have a very selective memory or meant a different game - he was the holding MF and ran almost further than anyone else in the League in that game!

He was shocking in the first half against Everton (I was there so saw it with my own eyes). By far our worst player on the day. Only settled down in second half when they had 10 men.

Certainly anybody who saw it will never forget it. An iconic moment - for all the wrong reasons

Win as a team, lose as a team, it's the same thing you hear at all levels of the game (except semi pro in the Netherlands apparently). I fully expect his team mates to get around him and support him.

Thankfully this is not up to some of our fans. Who, once they have vented and calmed a little will hopefully give their heads a wobble.

I think we need a 'what does Weiffer even do?' thread. 😂

FWIW, Wieffer has had moments of looking good but far more moments of looking sub-par.

Unfortunately, he is very close to 25, so doesn’t have as much allowance in regards to his performance levels as some of the other recent signings.

He has only started 2 games and played an average of 37 odd minutes each game - it is too early though to say he won’t make the cut.

Ok he’s not 19, but 24 years old - in today’s fitness level regimes that is not old. How often under RDZ’s first season for example, did we see seasoned older players take it up several notches because of tweaks in training/tactics? If we get just one or two good seasons from him, he’ll be worth the £25m we paid for him.

Who ever thought Solly after 10 years at Brighton, under RDZ would become one of the best goal-scoring inverted wingers we ever had, or a little known Watford forward would become one of the best penalty takers in the Premier League or Danny Welbeck at 33 years would be in the top 5 goal scorers in the Premier League this season?

I’m not going to talk him up too much but I’m not going to dismiss him either and definitely not because of his age.

Just want to say, I’m 27 now and played semi professionally in Holland since I came here. I moved here when I was 18, and if I played a pass like that I wouldn’t be welcome back in the changing room. Honestly, I wouldn’t even show my face.

It’s absolutely unacceptable in Sunday league level, never mind the top level of English football. Anyone who has played football, if your teammates did this in the last minute, how would you actually react? Fuming, is the answer. I’m sure we won’t see any behind the scenes for that game.

I, and I’m sure the same as many others, would have maybe accepted from a player who was tired and misplaced a pass who’d been running up and down the whole game, not from a lad who came on for 8 minutes. Pathetic. You can tell me we shouldn’t have committed so many bodies forward, I’d say we pressed it as was the game plan, hence why we only had 5 in defence against, by the way, bottom of the league. Anyone who blames the defence for not closing them down didn’t see the whole pitch.

I really hope for his sake he offers a public apology and shows what he really can because I and many others can really see what he has to offer. See; NL against Germany last week.

My two memories of him right now as a Brighton supporter is almost giving a goal away against Everton and the pass tonight.

This is coming from someone who has always backed the Dutch players to a tee, but it’s simply not good enough.
It’s not about seeing the whole pitch on a break, whilst you do your best to ‘hold’ for as long as possible, to ensure you get numbers back, you simply have to engage if a player enters the area, ?Cunha needed to be closed down (by Igor), at that point he was about 4-5 yards away. Nowhere near close enough, he had a Wolves player to his right, which (hypothetically) he could have played in, but he is in a worse position to get a shot away, and we have JPvH, Tariq and Veltman.

But that doesn’t detract from Wieffer, it just could have been defended better, at that point IMO.

Here we go… scapegoat city. Give the guy a chance. Today wasn’t good, but it’s early days. One bad kick of the ball doesn’t make a bad player. Let’s see how he responds to this and move forward from there.
I think we should start him against Liverpool on Wednesday - get back on the horse in a cup game - I’ll be there in person supporting him as I would every one of our team players.

Yes, said that in my first post on here.

I was struggling to find another as shocking….
Dunk back pass vs …….. erm…..Wolves
An uncharacteristic Bruno hoof, vs Someone like Preston….

Ulloa penalty

But sadly for Wieffer that pips them alll….

The positive is that the names I mentioned were/are all legends, so you never know

Weve thrown 2 points away totally unavoidably, why shouldn't we be angry ? This is a fans forum. Anyone who went today will be fuming, and justifiably so.
Disappointed, a feeling of FFS, absolutely yes. Angry, fuming…., it’s only a game of football.

Fortunately I didn’t watch the game, went to see some Caravaggio instead. Having now caught up with events I’m of the view that was one howler of a mistake from Weiffer. However, ceding possession in the last third, however badly it’s done, is nothing new, happens every game. We should have been better positioned and prepared further back, it was too easy for Wolves.

As for Caravaggio. I love the way he uses lighting in his work, very dramatic.

Wieffers pass awful, Igor could have engaged earlier , but where on earth was Pervis? 93rd minute , we are 4v1 and he is steaming forward with no hope of being involved , and whilst he wouldn’t have expected the pass , to be picked off, he’s left the biggest hole on our left , filled with Wolves players and he is in no-man’s land .. a poor goal with lots of “errors” beyond the pass
