Apart from “succour ” you then have the common English terminology for describing the game that’s massacred, so for example :

1-0, one nil, becomes one to nothing.

2-2, two all, becomes two goals each.

3-3, that’s a draw, becomes that’s a tie.

Dressing room - locker room

And finally, the fans FFS! Love ‘em really, but they just don’t get it.

I’m sure there’s a load more but you get my drift.

We're currently four, three and one.
Palace are O, three and five.

They have not told me anything I didn't already know. As I said, I think the story is unlikely for the previous reasons stated.
So you have polled a diverse group of people regarding the behaviour of people in this country, and almost to a person they have told you the story is eminently believable, still, you are dismissing everything that has been said based solely upon your preconceived ideas?

I have been trying to read this post to see how our Danny is. I must say it has degenerated into a load of p!sh. Could Mods please strip out the nonsense postings (including this one) and get back to the base premise of the post's title.

Can someone also give us an update on our Danny's fitness?

thanks

They are going to assess him after training today, but Brian Owen didn't think they sounded optimistic about him playing against Wolves.

I salute your indefatigability. I, on the other hand, am dissolute and feckless when it comes to cockwomblers

And yet no one raises an eyebrow at all the twankers (twats/wankers) on here who use 'movies' for films or 'seasons' for series. Piss off and live in Cincinnati if you're gonna be droppin' that shizz around these parts. Absolute c-units.
Bad news. You’re fighting a lost battle on that one. It’s language. It changes.

When I was a kid we used to talk about going to the flicks or going to the pictures. My late father used to say 'picture' (singular) instead of film. Movie might have seemed pretentious back then. Not now. I never knew season vs series was a thing either. I thought we’d always had seasons of things.

I've always thought there was a difference between a series and a season, using a series for things with like 6-10 episodes but think season works better for things with like 20+ episodes at a time.

And ITV's very own "player in / player out" for substitutions rather than the traditional and correct "on / off".

Which is one of many reasons why ITV shouldn't be allowed to broadcast soccer. :lolol:

And who calls a sport football when 99% of passing or running with the ball is in the hand. Yes, I know kicking the ball is allowed, but I'd love to see the stats of how many times during a match the players actually kick the ball, American football vs rugby football vs soccer.

While there may be some truth in this going back about 120years or so, it doesn't get any closer to answering why calling it soccer seems to have become unacceptable for so many people relatively recently.
Xenophobia. As we all know, in the states "football" means that game where they rarely kick the ball and if they want to talk about our game they call it "soccer". Of course this is harmless enough, however the whole world is saturated in American culture so this new usage started to feel like an assault on our language and culture. How dare they try to steal "football" and force us to only use the soppy "soccer" label? Soccer in the USA seems to be viewed as a childs game, less manly than "football" and is used in derogatory terms such as "soccer mums".

Of course it is just a word and used to be common in England but meanings of words change over time and now "soccer" is an Americanism and a belittling of the beautiful game.

17% is the average for an NFL game for the ball being kicked

That’s the way if the world these days sadly.

“I think this”
“OK well it is highly, highly likely you are wrong and here is all the evidence to show why”
“I still think this”.

I find it so puzzling, I really do. I don’t understand why people would rather be wrong but pretend they are right, than be wrong and therefore more likely to be right next time.

I'm hoping the NFL and the NCAA (the governing body of American college football) will eventually change the name of that sport to avoid the global confusion.

As I stated it's not that we don't recognise "soccer" as being a nickname for football, it's that some countries in particular the US and here in Aus are replacing Football with soccer. As I tirelessly point out to people here, AFL is primarily handball, and the biggest global tv audience is not for the "soccer" world cup
