The BBC missed something in their stats: yes, it's the highest ever partnership for England but it's also the highest ever fourth wicket partnership by anyone, beating Voges and Marsh's 449

Not entirely sure about that. Whilst a draw is most likely, if England score quick runs in two sessions, end up with a lead of over 100 and put Pakistan in after tea, we will then see if Pakistan cope with batting under scoreboard pressure and possibly a deteriorating pitch. What isn't going to happen is a Pakistan win.
Remarkable game. England lead is going to be 250+. Pakistan will be under a lot of pressure when they bat. Could be an interesting 5th day.

Remarkable effort for England to force a result here. I expect England to use as many overs as possible today to take the game out of Pakistan's hands.

Minimum of 48 overs remaining today, England going at 8.6 an over for the last 10. Highest total ever is 952-6 (Sri Lanka v India 1997) - could get there with overs to spare tonight.

While that would be fun, I suspect the declaration will come before then, to give a fighting chance of having enough overs to bowl Pakistan out.

A lead around 300 might be the target, if I had to guess.

Loved the optimism of Pakistan to put pressure on Brook on 298 - and how he blocked one and then hit a four to get his triple century

Yes, think as soon as Brook goes, the declaration will follow.

That doesn't look likely to ever happen at this rate though!

Screw the win, let Brook get Lara's record

We will see. Right now it looks like a classic example of why the long form game is dying on its arse.

1350 runs for 13 wickets, about 300 people watching and the very worst type of cricket bores purring over good (but not the world's greatest ever, Root excepted) batsmen smashing daddy hundreds on tarmac.

Gatting and Fowler in 1985 (V India)

My brain instantly said '1984/85 in India, you remember listening to the commentary before you went to school' I'm so pleased with myself

England won that series. Gatting looked like he had turned the corner.

It'll be interesting to see if the cricket stat bores are still purring about this game if (when?) Pakistan find themselves at 250/2 by mid-morning tomorrow.

I was talking about this elsewhere, when you think of the fuss made about crap over rates, why does no-one stop and think about the damage caused to the game by preparing such awful, boring, flat pitches?

Carse hitting his first ball in test cricket for 6 to bring up the 800

Probably been tougher first ball assignments than that

To be fair, there aren't many draws in Test cricket now a days. More to do with not preparing properly rather than the pitches but I am not sure these type of wickets are the main problem for falling Test viewership.

Still loads of overs to play as well. Min of 40 overs left today, and presumably a day 5 minimum of 90 tomorrow. Will take a massive effort for Pakistan to survive for that long and/or get a lead that takes England out of the game now.

I expect a result here.
