Absolutely, some of the England players have been away from thier homes and families for months. I'm sure spending the whole time living in different hotels must have an effect on mental health.
Maybe it's time ECB/ICC started looking at the length of some of these tours.

I'm not one to often do this, but THIS. The ECB need to get a grip, it was somewhat inevitable given the length of time away from home.
The question now for England is who to bring in for him; surely it's time for Adil Rashid? cricinfo floats the idea of Samit Patel but I can't see it given the strength of rebuke from Andy Flower.

Sorry I'm not sure where I put that it was harder for our cricketers than our troops? I have a great deal of sympathy for them too if that helps. This thread was about a Sussex cricketer.
I just don't think it's healthy for our top cricketers to spend months away from home.
And dessert is what you have after dinner. I think you mean desert.

Why must everything be based upon comparisons to our troops?
For what its worth, the troops become closer in some repects than their own families back home, the support networks from their comrades is what keeps them going and alive in some instances.
Not wanting to start an argument at all as i find most of your posts worth reading.

This is very true.
Untill my mid thirties i assumed depression was just something weak minded, and fragile people had.
Then i developed tinitus, believe me i understand now the causes and effects it can have on anyone.

Michael Yardy / Boycott's comments
I am very sorry to hear about Michael Yardy and wish him all the best. He seems a genuine guy, not a prima donna superstar and in my view has real guts for going public about his depression. Good to see Sussex CC quickly making very supportive statements in support of Michael. Sussex and Seagulls fans will give him every support too.
On the other hand Geoffrey Boycott has shown no guts in making cheap shots about Yardy's depression being due to Boycott's earlier comments about his form in this World Cup and being a 'liability' to the England squad. What a disgrace. Only a year ago Yardy was integral to England's magnificent 20/20 World Cup win. Yes his form has dipped in the current tournamment - but then so have many others in the squad.
Boycott is an ignorant arse - he does not seem to understand (or is willing to ignore) that depression is a medical condition. Yes - we are used to Boycott being forthright and have enjoyed some of his characteristically incisive comments particularly about the Aussies in the recent Ashes win. No doubt that is why broadcasters were content to employ Boycott as a pundit. However his comments about Yardy have crossed a line and are out of order. It is not acceptable to play the 'dour gritty Yorkshire stereotype' card. Boycott is a dinosaur from the same mould as Ron Atkinson and Andy Gray, fully deserving of similar public censure.
