Well said. I always liked Spike Milligan's description. You're in bed and the doorbell rings and you know that the person at the door is the most important person you'll ever meet in your life, but however hard you try, you just can't seem to get out from under the duvet.

Paolo - as you say, you know when it hits you and you see the reaction of people you know who can see it and don't know what to say.

All the best to you and Yardy.

I've never really looked at it like that. Makes sense.

I suffer from depression and I feel like I have wasted the last year or two. Desperate to get back to normality, but it isn't easy. All my friends are sympathetic, but it is difficult for them to understand. Difficult to convince yourself to feel happy. It is not a lifestyle choice.

Best wishes to Michael Yardy for getting better very soon.

Depression can be very cruel at times. I've suffered from it on and off for a few years, basically destroying most of my serotonin (the feel-good chemical in the brain) by using ecstasy heavily when I was younger. The last few months have been much better but any kind of setback in life and I fall to pieces. When I'm depressed it feels like nothing matters in the world. It affects a lot of people around me but it's sometimes hard to notice when I'm feeling so low. This year has been good so far - plenty of exercise, healthy food, girlfriend and a new job which I enjoy. Touch wood, everything stays positive.

PaoloRossiJohnson, hope you continue to get better mate.

Northern Monkey Wife Beating Gobshite :tosser: spouts a lot of nonsense he knows nothing about while in other breaking news a Bear uses Forested Area as a Lavatory while a Vatican Occupant asserts he is Head of a Christian Church....

I am very sorry to hear about Michael Yardy and wish him all the best. He seems a genuine guy, not a prima donna superstar and in my view has real guts for going public about his depression. Good to see Sussex CC quickly making very supportive statements in support of Michael. Sussex and Seagulls fans will give him every support too.

On the other hand Geoffrey Boycott has shown no guts in making cheap shots about Yardy's depression being due to Boycott's earlier comments about his form in this World Cup and being a 'liability' to the England squad. What a disgrace. Only a year ago Yardy was integral to England's magnificent 20/20 World Cup win. Yes his form has dipped in the current tournamment - but then so have many others in the squad.

Boycott is an ignorant arse - he does not seem to understand (or is willing to ignore) that depression is a medical condition. Yes - we are used to Boycott being forthright and have enjoyed some of his characteristically incisive comments particularly about the Aussies in the recent Ashes win. No doubt that is why broadcasters were content to employ Boycott as a pundit. However his comments about Yardy have crossed a line and are out of order. It is not acceptable to play the 'dour gritty Yorkshire stereotype' card. Boycott is a dinosaur from the same mould as Ron Atkinson and Andy Gray, fully deserving of similar public censure.

As pointed out by a BBC radio 5 listener this morning, asking Geofrey Boycott`s opinion on depresssion is akin to asking Dr Hilary Jones advice on slip catching.

The BBC need to think a little sometimes.

I do become sick and tired of people putting across their opinions as fact, about subjects that they have very little idea about. Why not just say, "I hope Michael can battle this depression and I wish all the best for him in the future"?
