Because we've got too many fit and healthy defenders as it is..... oh wait a minute :dunce:

As Sir Danny Cullip said in another thread presumably it is wages. McGhee said he was very impressed and from what I have seen of him he looked fairly sharp. Relocating to England could have been a factor in his wage demands and we can't break our wage structure for one player.

Shame but we have to move on if that is the case....

Ah well, that'll only be two summers running we've failed to get in a left-back, then. It's not like McGhee's had enough time or anything ...

I assume our defence will now be

Hart.......El Abd.....Lynch......Rents/Mayo

Harty is a midfielderish
El Abd a full back
Lynch a full back ( who supposedly can play at the back)
Rents mmmmmm
Mayo and midfielder.

Lynch and El-Abd, are actually both centre backs not full backs

I dont think El Abd's/Lynch's positions are actually FB, they are both natural CB's (certainly something Lynch said last season). Rents is a LB and so is Mayo.

who have both this last year been playing as full backs and are therefore used to playing as full backs and the team are used to them playing as full backs.

That was the point I was making, but you are most kind in pointing out that they are both centre backs.

Lynch and El Abd are both central defenders so that would not be a problem. The only issue is who is fit as Lynch, Mayo and Butters may miss the start of the season and Hinshelwood sounds doubtful. I would probably choose Mayo and Reid as full backs over Hart and Rents.

:)

I actually think El-Abd isn't comfortable at right back, he does the tackling bit ok.......... but is poor with the ball.

Lynch however does seem quite happy at LB, and assuming we don't sign a LB will probably land up playing there when we have some fit centre halfs

I personally think that is total bollocks, but if we all agreed about things, the world would be a much nicer and happier place.

I obviously defend your right to post bollocks in a free and democratic society.

Well Rotherham might be a case of playing what we have.

Maybe MM and the coaching staff will have worked on that part of El-Abd game over the summer.

Covering there is ok, but to be fair a right back he is not.... centre half he looks much better.
