What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

Presumption of innocence until proved guilty doesn't usually apply when someone admits doing what they did but claims it wasn't illegal.

Durham police have now released a statement saying they intend to investigate other allegations. The Observer and Sunday Mirror said Cummings did not stay indoors while in Durham and made another trip there after returning to London in April.

Steve White, acting crime and victims’ commissioner for Durham police, said he was confident it had so far "responded proportionately and appropriately" but added: "It is clear, however, that there is a plethora of additional information circulating in the public domain which deserves appropriate examination.

"I have today written to the Chief Constable, asking her to establish the facts concerning any potential breach of the law or regulations... It is vital that the Force can show it has the interests of the people of County Durham and Darlington at its heart, so that the model of policing by consent, independent of government but answerable to the law, is maintained."

He said the issue had "become a major issue of public interest and trust".

Does that mean that the Durham Police (the ones that Cummings has claimed lied), will now get access to ANPR data ???

Yes. They could have done to start with. Below is the national guidance for use.

Use of ANPR for Law Enforcement Purposes
ANPR infrastructure may only be deployed law enforcement purposes as defined in Part 3 of the DPA ; or on grounds of national security. Law Enforcement is defined by the DPA as “the prevention, investigation, detection or prosecution of criminal offences or the execution of criminal penalties, including the safeguarding against and the prevention of threats to public security”. The Joint Controller Arrangements (JCA).
The JCA details the responsibilities of controllers for compliance with the DPA. The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) ANPR lead is designated as the lead controller within the JCA for the NAS.
Joint Controllers have determined within the JCA that they will conform to consistent policy and procedures for the elements of the NAC for which their own LEA is responsible and for which they are controller.

Total bollocks, being a politician shouldn’t make you an open target to literally hundreds of press swarming together outside your home, during a pandemic I might add and having people abusing you on your own front doorstep if you just fancy going to the shop it’s the lowest of the low. Plenty of people ‘court the press’ doesn’t mean that you’re immune to human feelings.

It’s deplorable.

It's not as deplorable as going to a castle during lockdown breaking the rules he had a hand in writing for the rest of us. Yeah it's not great but don't make this the issue. With his statement to come, he would have wanted the abuse to be a victim. He better not make up some childcare excuse later today when

A) he could have stayed in London and got help from authorities his other family in London
B) even if he can justify A he went to a castle 30 miles away which broke the lockdown law!
C) he allegedly went back up to Durham.

Cummings to make a statement and take questions.
Should be good.

This truly is farcical. He's a government advisor, and he gets to make his own statement to the media, and we are expected to be on tenterhooks listening to his every word. He had six hours with the PM yesterday to explain himself. The PM then made a statement. If the allegations are untrue then Johnson had plenty of opportunity to go through them one by one to set the record straight. He didn't. And if he's just going to resign, he can do that like everyone else, with a short letter to his "boss". The guy's ego is unbelievable. You simply couldn't make this stuff up.

Yeah cause that's a really important consideration when the missus has Covid19 and your Mums grieving the death of her brother!

So going to see his mother when infected is a sensible thing to do.

So can I assume that the families of all those that have died could have done the same thing? No they couldn’t but good old Dominic can!

The press are camped on his doorstep (social distancing be damned) and bombard him with questions when he comes out to empty the bin, so there’s definitely a need for it. I’m sure it’s not about ego. I doubt he’s looking forward to it.

If the press don’t want it, they don’t have to cover it.

It would be interesting to see how the rest of the world view this.

Embarrassing to say the least.

The horrible irresponsible media.. another diversion to distract from the important issue.

Expect talk of autistic children later from Dom and talk of what any father would do in that
Position.

It still doesn’t excuse his or the pm’s actions.

Yep. Tens of thousands of parents have kids with special requirements. It still doesn't excuse his behaviour.

One question though, how do they deal with this when they both go to work in normal times? ???

As the father of a child with Autism I beg to differ on your last statement.
