Nestlé (yes, Nestlé!) has pulled advertising on the Mail website because comments breach its code for 'mutual respect and tolerance'.

Apart from the fact that her piece is so totally ofensive it is also very badly constructed and written. That coming from a man (me)who specialises in badly constructed and written comments.

I'm of the opinion who should be able to damn well write what you like but accept the consequences of the digital age where a spark on a website like Twitter can become a full blown fire storm a few hours later.

I expect a couple of broadcasters and the odd playwright are having a right old laugh about an online Daily Mail column hardly anyone would have read becoming the story of the day and leading to some pretty big companies having to make press statements about it.

The only issue worth discussing is the fact the Daily Mail is simply getting a massive dose of it's own medicine.

Hilarious.

Let's all give them what they want. This woman is one of those people who have no talent, so use extreme comments to provoke a reaction. How many people will have gone to read her column, gone to the daily mail site just because of this bruhaha

She's a disgusting piece of work. What she said was truely awful.

Stephen died of PULMONARY OEDEMA. You don't get that from drinking / smoking too much, unless you have for many many years. It tends to occur as a result of heart failure. He may have had a pre-existing condition a la Marc Vivien Foe.

What anyone thinks of gay marriage (personally I think that marriage should be for love, no matter what preference the person has) - Moir's comments were erroneous, and way, way out of line.

Having said that, she does work for the Daily Mail, and for what shit they spout most of the time, I'm not overly surprised by what she's come out with.

As much as her article is odious, I don't think she contravenes the harm principle. The right to offend should be written in stone, if you deny freedom of speech, even such a poor example as Ms Moir's, you deny the opportunity to test your own views by comparing to the other. The amount of hysteria surrounding this shitty piece of gutter journalism is breathtaking.

The idea is to refute not censor, censorship is the cowardly way out.

Having just read that article one can only assume that the anger shown on here towards the reporting was on a completly different piece and it has been replaced by what I have just read, I have been more offended by my sons skid marks down the back of the kahzi than that get real people, bet you all chuckled at the flow of texts jokes that as usual have filled our phones this week.

Got to say, I was not quite as shocked by the piece as I'd expected, wrong as it was. I wonder whether the Mail have edited it.

This, from the Daily Quail, is a hilarious piss-take of Moir's column...

The Daily Quail: JAN MOIR: Why there's nothing natural about these gays

Thank you for sending us your complaint about the Daily Mail article on the subject of the death of Stephen Gately. We have received numerous complaints about this matter.

I should first make clear that the Commission generally requires the involvement of directly affected parties before it can begin an investigation into an article. On this occasion, it may be a matter for the family of Mr Gately to raise a complaint about how his death has been treated by the Daily Mail. I can inform you that we have made ourselves available to the family and Mr Gately’s bandmates, in order that they can use our services if they wish.

We require the direct involvement of affected parties because the PCC process can have a public outcome and it would be discourteous for the Commission to publish information relating to individuals without their knowledge or consent. Indeed, doing so might unwittingly add to any intrusion. Additionally, one of the PCC’s roles is dispute resolution, and we would need contact with the affected party in order to determine what would be an acceptable means of settling a complaint.

On initial examination, it would appear that you are, therefore, a third party to the complaint, and we will not be able to pursue your concerns further. However, if you feel that your complaint touches on claims that do not relate directly to Mr Gately or his family, please let us know, making clear how they raise a breach of the Code of Practice. If you feel that the Commission should waive its third party rules, please make clear why you believe this.

Yours sincerely

Unfortunately, Wozza, the PCC is a bag of gutless, impotent shite, so I wouldn't expect too much of them. Still worth the effort, though, mate.

Twitter is a good read at the moment especially some of Stephen Fry's comments. Me thinks more will be written tomorrow

There was a bit in there about how inviting a third party back and clearly not for a game of cards brought gay marriage into disrepute when he should have been a standard bearer for them or some other such drivel. Firstly the Bulgarian might well have gone back for a threesome - who knows - but does that make every straight star who marries equally responsible for being faithful and monogamous and upholding the sanctity of marriage? If so plenty fail. Secondly the reporter can't know that for a fact and to speculate is probably causing distress to all concerned. Jan - my wife and I have socialised with members of the opposite sex from time to time without it becoming an orgy.

The lesson here is surely don't read a nasty posionous little rag like the Daily Mail.

Anyone who thinks his death isn't suspicious should really leave the house a bit more. Daily Mail Dorris is just saying what everyone is thinking!

Still they'll sell a few more records off the back of it so every cloud and all that.
