I have been saying all season we need a midfield man who can SHOUT and see exactly whats going on someone not unlike nobby Horton and it did sound like the guy Whittaker from PV might just fit the bill and for free.
and somewhere on here I have asked Mr Wilkins or DK to go talk to the man

Sullivan needs a chance to prove himself. Had plenty of offers from Conference clubs wanting him on loan, but the club refuse on the basis that he is cover for Kuipers. You can't throw a player in the deep end having been rotting in the reserves for 2/3 years. Either send him out on loan or play him.

But I agree with what most people have said, a left back, a couple of midfielders and another striker. If we get 4 decent players in we have a good shot at promotion next season.

Ah, it is that time of year where we get round to people calling for a creative midfielder to be signed.

Is there actually such a thing? Gone are the days even at international level of the creative players in the mould of Gazza, Maradona, Hagi etc.

Midfielders have changed. Teams now tend to have a players like Viera or Gerrard who can get from box to box, tackle, pass and have a bit of height.

We did have a player like that, how could get from box to box, tackle, pass and had some height, but he somehow went to Colchester, so rather than people calling for a 'creative' midfielder, which is something that does not really exist, we should be looking to replace Hammond, however these sort of players are rare and like strikers with some idea of how to put the ball in the net, tend to cost a bit.

Agree we really miss Hammond but he's gone and we have to get on with it. Yes we should try and replace him with someone of stature but also i think we could do with a wise old head in midfield who actually doesn't have to run round like a bastard all day but instead just sits and passes the ball. Gary mcallister when at Coventry was brilliant at doing that. They are rare but if we can find one... Or somone like Darren Currie - a creative player in the old school and would be a good signing for us for a season.

Keeper - To challenge Kuipers
Left Back - Matt Richards, please
Left Midfielder - Someone who can cross a ball consistently
Centre Midfielder - Ian Westlake, please
Striker - Luke Rodgers, Marc Richards of Port Vale?? Steven Gillespie would be incredible, they could still go down :)

On the phone-in last night, there were several mentions of comments that Barry Lloyd had made, which indicated that there was going to be a big turnover of players in the summer. Does anyone know where this came from & what was said?

having spent £300k on murray, there is no way we will be able to spend that much on another striker - and i would hazard a guess that it would take more than that to get gillespie

isnt fleetwood at forest green out of contract at the end of the season? he might be worth a look into

Because of our lack of money we have to make do and mend so I would suggest a versatile full back who can play either left or right.

Either blood Sullivan in now or get an experienced Keeper to contest Kuipers position.

A central ball winning midfielder in the Bertin mould thus releasing El Abd to revert to central defender when neeeded.

A speedy winger who can cross a ball and again is happy on either flank.

A striker good enough to make it a choice of 2 from 3 with the other one on the bench.

When looking at players there will be literally hundreds released this summer and when you consider that goalkeepers like Russel Hoult have gone from Prem/ Championship to Notts County there must be a hope.

didn't hear it - but with 18 players out of contract come June 1, a big turnover would hardly be amajor suprise

Apart from all the other obvious ones mentioned we need a ball winning hard man in midfield. El Abd may be the man but we need more than one as cover or 1st choice. I haven't seen too many games but those I have have seen us outmuscled in midfield virtually every time.

An Oatway, Clark, Horton, Grealish or Case. we will never be good enough for a real promotion push without one. Is El Abd good enough to be that man????

Could the fact that John Sullivan was coached by John Keeley, who has left for Portsmouth, for so long have had a negative affect on him being even put on the bench since Keeley left?

This no spare keeper on the bench really bewilders me as it is a specialist position and if you cannot find 4 other players who can fit into any other outfield position if needed then we are in a sorry state.

Gerry Ryan an international winner went to right back in the cup final when Ramsey was injured. Beckham dropped to right wing back for Real Madrid and England when the occassion needed. Even Gary Birtles dropped from centre forward to centre half during one game when their defender was carried off.

Why on earth would that matter ?

As a protege of Keeleys from his schoolboy days Keeley would have been pushing his claim forward.

That may not be the case with our new goalkeeping coach, who has only known him a few months and may not have the same opinion as Keeley as to his ability.
