[waits for onslaught]

oh dear oh dear...hope you weren't responsible for that little bit of last minute christmas cheer inflicted on us long-standing suffering commuters called the "let's cancel the 7.21 to london on a really piss poor wet and windy morning" like this morning!

I started in IT in January 1970, so I’ve been in IT for just on 34 years. Started contracting in 1975, went permie in 2000, when market collapsed. Worked all over U.K., and also in U.S.A., (spent nearly a year at Wal*mart ‘Home’ Office ’92 to ’93). I was also in Nottingham at Furlong House from early ’93 to mid ’94, when it was occupied by B.R Computing. (It was mentioned in an earlier post by Beach Hut replying to Lammy). Now hoping to do a little bit more contracting to help finance some new software that I’m hoping will provide a decent living.
I don’t post all that often, mainly because I get really pissed off by some total wanker screwing up a really good thread. Now that he can’t ruin this one, I thought it was worth posting.

I work for a small IT software company in Crawley. I used to Work for Sequent Computer Systems which got taken over by IBM. Didn't like working for a IBM as they are too big a company so moved.

I'm a UNIX specialist for the geeky amongst us and scaringly have now been doing the job for 7 years.

I also work in Crawley for a large American IT Service provider. Unix is also my specialism. I am also Technical Support Team Leader.

Where do you work Tinx? on the industrial estate?

I am an IBM AS400 tekkie ( I work in Disaster Recovery) for an American based Company.

I basically have 16 AS400's of various size and flavours in the City on which I make sure client's backups work ( restoring systems) and connect them to a restored LAN/WAN/ biddlybam type thing, thereby recreating their offices in ours!!

If Osama decides to take out London or somewhere like that we step in and you lucky peeps can continue working come what may.

Not seen this thread in a while!!

Work for the 2nd biggest investment bank (y'know the one by now I expect from this thread ;) ) but have no car and no money. Work in UK Equities with traders an' all that. Sounds good, pays f*ck all. Traders get £850,000 a year on average, I get bugger all for making sure they get their money. Commission? Never heard of it.

I just live within 5 minutes walk of wherever I work to save money. And can get up nice and late in the morning at around 7:30 :clap2:

For your age, experience and the fact that you work in a "secondary location" you are on very good money, and you've got VERY good prospects ....so STOP moaning.....or I'll tell Bill Harrison!!
