Good idea but are you sure its a tax free allowance, I'm sure Mr HMR&C would question that, or is it the 40p a mile you mean.

£5600 tax-free. 100%.

Add to that the benefit of not paying the £1250 I currently pay in tax for the privelige of having a company car, and I have close to £7000pa to spend.

Mitsubishi Colt 1.5 D ID, 55 Reg. I only picked it up on Monday but I've found it a fun car to drive so far especially when you drop down a gear, put your foot down and the turbo kicks in.

Zafira GSi

"The GSi version of the previous shape Zafira sold modestly but again showed that Vauxhall was a company that could build interesting and desirable family cars. Here was a car that could accelerate through the gears quicker than a Porsche Boxster yet could seat seven."

No car, and as I can't be bothered to start a 'what other form of transport do you use' thread. I will just hijack this one with a picture of my beloved.

Can you explain how this works as I have never come accross a Company car allowance scheme that is not taxable.

I'm 43 and don't drive, have never driven, and have no intention of driving. Am I odd?

At the end of March, I am giving up my Company Car, after 20+ years of having one, as with what I am going to be paid extra, (which is basically just what it would cost the Company to provide me with one) plus the non paying of the Tax, means I will be far better off even after buying a car/road tax/insurance/servicing. (I gave up the fuel benefit years ago as the tax on that was stupid.)

For me I will be approx £500 a month nett after tax/NI - remember this changes in April - better off - before I buy and run a car.

Should be able to buy and run a reasonable motor for £500 per month.

Next question please: Second hand Audi A3 v Second hand BMW 1 series. Looking at both of these - your thoughts please. (If going for the A3 would have to be a 5 door.) Anyone got either of these in a Diesel?

Cheers
