He's describing his buddy:

Or are you gonna go merrily sucking your thumb like you did in World War Two?”

The ITV News journo then asked him whether he thought wartime allies should be more conciliatory...

“We don’t need your damn help, we need your cooperation, that’s all we need out of you guys and it’s hard even to get that. We know you can’t shoot, move and communicate, but we’d sure as hell like to have your cooperation anyway.”

Very much like some of the C U Next Tuesdays we have in this country. Badly educated, weak minded and easily influenced with only just enough mental capacity to string a sentance together. Many, Many American and European soldiers have fought and died over the years together, and many surviving American service men would be as angry with comments like that as we are.

Having said all that, not a lot in war makes sense I am sure, and a mistake can cost innocent lives. I would like an admission from the US government that this was avoidable friendly fire and an apology (possibly some form of compensation to the family). Don't think the pilot should get hung out to dry.

I was utterly speechless when the twat said that. Had to Sky + it and watch it again to be sure I'd not mis-heard him. He was disparaging not only to the chap who died, his widow and all our allied armed forces, but also to all non-American allied servicemen who fought and died in WW2.

I think, perhaps, they showed it because they wanted to show how stupid these people really are, and to further whip up the storm. They made no comment on his words, just played it straight. I wonder whether there will be repercussions or whether his quotes will be picked up in the press tomorrow.
